Impossible to install 275.33 WHQL drivers on my M17x R1...
Am I alone on this one? Clean installation and everything, doesn't even detect any compatible hardware, and if modded with Dox's latest tool the installers fails.
Just awesome![]()

Same problem here (R3), damn it.
-
Same here, 'no compatible hardware found', will post in feedback thread of nvidia forum.
-
I got the same thing. I guess it's not an isolated issue.
-
I also got the same error message
-
The device caps/subsys entries have been removed from the nvdm.inf file.
Manually Added them back in and it works. -

There you go. -
work perfectly on my R2 rig

3D on the modded inf? Does it work?
-

Now this is weird...
The custom .inf allows me to launch the installation, it seems to do its job, but after the system restarts the driver is NOT installed.
Did I do something wrong? -
That's odd, I've got UAC enabled and didn't have an issue, so it can't be UAC.
Did you try the Clean Install option? -
I've also ran into the exact same problem Psychotic deformity had.
I did a clean install (Safe mode, driver sweep, ccleaner) of the 270.61 driver. Restarted. Modded the inf file for the 275.33. Install seems to go fine, but, once it has restarted, the driver does not seem to be installed.
When installing the driver, I choose to install everything except the 3D drivers, as they are of no use to me. I also choose the clean install option near the bottom.
I don't know what the problem is, but until then, I will just revert to 270.61. If anyone can help, it would be gladly appreciated. -
still get the compatibility issue on my R3
-
Okay! I've gotten the 275.33 driver to install perfectly fine without my above mentioned troubles getting in the way. Here's how:
1.) Download the NVIDIA 275.33 driver.
2.) Let it try to install, of which then you will receive a compatibility error.
3.) Exit out of the installer because now you're going to replace a file so you no longer get a compatibility error.
4.) Either download the modded inf file posted previously in the forum or try the new one I posted below.
5.) Unzip the modded inf folder and then navigate to the following location:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\275.33\Vista 64-bit\International\Display.Driver
6.) Copy and replace the nvdm file from the downloaded modded inf folder to this location and you should no longer get an error when trying to install.
7.) Turn off any firewall or antivirus you may have installed (Idk if this helps, but, it's a good precaution to take just in case)
8.) Once you have finished all of these steps, now run the setup application located here:
C:\NVIDIA\DisplayDriver\275.33\Vista 64-bit\International
9.) When installing, make sure you choose custom install and then make sure the clean install option near the bottom is checked.
I have tried these steps both with a clean uninstall (via Safe mode, driver sweep, and ccleaner) and NVIDIA's clean install option in the installer application, of which both installed perfectly fine.
I hope this helps anyone that was running into problems.Attached Files:

I installed over the top of the 275.27 betas, wonder if that helped at all /shrug.
I did the custom (no 3D) and clean install. -

I don't get it, I did exactly like you CCaldwell, except for the antivirus step. Which I never do, but might try it now...
oh by the way, I read somehere on the nvidia forums that the BSOD on startup is still here (since 275.27), do you have it with 275.33? It was the main reason I reverted back to 270.61... so, won't even bother if it's still in the 275.33
edit: Nevermind, I tried with AV disabled, and it worked... don't know if it was luck or not lol -
I never had that issue with 275.27, worked fine for me.
Just a side note, I don't use any Alienware/Dell software (i.e. no control centre etc...), and run only on discretes (integrated disabled). Not sure if that helps or not. -
I've yet to receive any sort of BSODs on startups with the 275.33.
I'll keep you posted if I receive any though -

Haven't had any myself, however: screens wakes up to black screen when running on discrete cards (only a forced reboot fixes this) and pausing cuda work in boinc still makes the system unstable or completely freezes it.
While gaming performance is good, it comes with quite a lot of issues... just like 257.27 beta. -
got the same error followed CCaldwell2 little guide work like a champ!!
M17x R1, GeForce GTX 260m (dual) SLI, Intel T9600 2.8ghz, 8G ram, Win 7 64, 270.61 WHQL driver, A07 bios, 1440x900 -
Got a response from Nvidia support (shock horror
).
Gave them all the details and they've said they'll fix the issue with the missing device ids, yay Nvidia. Wish we could get that sort of response from Dell with issues -
Same problem here (R1).

manuelg from nvidia answered to belien's post on the issue :
"This was by design. There is a bug that couldn't be fixed in time that affected Youtube video playback and therefore this model was excluded from this driver but will be in the next driver version. " -

I had to register just to say Thank you. I've been having this issue since 268 for some odd reason and now i can actually utilize the bug fixes included in this. Thank you very much.

Hmmm, wonder what the youtube bug is, running on the new drivers with PCI Gen 2.0 enabled and no Youtube issue to note (and I've watched a large number of vids).
This is the info I got sent in the support ticket...

No issues for me while watching videos on youtube, with or without this damn option enabled.
How is this kind of issue supposed to look like? -
First and foremost,
Do not use driver sweeper if you're an R1 user. The R1 uses an Nvidia chipset, and it will wipe/damage the chipset drivers. I have seen this countless times, and have even had the opportunity of testing this myself.
Driver Sweeper + Nvidia Chipset = Problems
I'm currently putting this driver to the test with the INF file from driver 275.27.
How to Install Driver 275.33:
1. Copy file "nvdm.inf" from driver 275.27.
2. Change "DriverVer = 05/13/2011, 8.17.12.7527" to "DriverVer = 05/13/2011, 8.17.12.7533".
3. Paste the newly changed file to the "Display.Driver" folder of driver 275.33 and agree to replace.
Thanks,

On the overclocking note, however, no, I'm not overclocking my 280s. -
I've followed every single step 'Posted by CCaldwell2' but it was to no avail...
the compatibility error still keeps coming out
Can anyone help ME
My laptop is ASUS K43SV, i7-2630, Nvidia GT540m, win7-64bit, with 6GB of RAM -

@Gabez: I don't see what the problem is with the R1 and driver sweeper. I only choose to clean the "nvidia display" and have yet to see any issue doing so... or maybe I have them without knowing. Can you be more specific?

Well, that was probably in the past, I never had any issues from using Driver Sweeper on my M17x. -
I was actually testing the newest version of driver sweeper. It seemed to have this issue on repeated uses.
Thanks,
Gabe -
I would also be one of the guys who would like to thank CCaldwell2.
I've been trying to figure this out for 2days straight and I finally updated my drivers with you'r help!
Thanks! -
That's great man!
BTW everyone, the beta 275.50 drivers are out now. I've tried to install them and they also seem to not contain our model in the inf files. I haven't tried my guide yet but i'm sure it would work for these also. I just hope our model is included in the soon to come WHQL drivers. -
It's all well and good offering the response, but useless if they're not going to act on it. -
(R3, GTX 460m)
Any advice on further possible steps to take greatly appreciated.
Cheers -
Please ignore previous posting. Solved the problem with an alternative nvdm.inf file, available at:
New Nvidia Driver 275.33 WHQL
Hope this is of use to somebody. -
Have lodged another ticket, will see what the response is.
*puts his tinfoil has on*
And in my book, until they haven't fixed it for months, they'll still be better than Dell -
And, using the two download options for nvdm files from the forum continue to present me with 'software/hardware recognition' error messages.
So... I'm back to asking if anybody can advise further.
Cheers -

Well a bit of an update for the R3/3D models. It seems that 275.50 installs fine. Perhaps someone can compare the INF(s) and see what is the problem?
I do not have time at the moment, nor do I know what I am looking for.
Thx in Advance
EDIT: Nevermind I take that back.. They install but I am guessing any drivers from the nvidia site lose the 3D option. Perhaps that is the problem plaguing 485m users. Well that sux, there is a game, Alice Returns, that requires the 270.xx drivers to get the 3D to work. However the only official option is 267.xx and that doesnt work with this game. Ouch AW!
Anyone know a way to get 3D working on nVidia.com drivers? -
As previously stated, any and all advice gratefully received. -
I have 275.33 and 3D works fine for me.
Okay fine, somehow it doesn't work on Crysis 2. But ONLY Crysis 2.
Use 275.33, apply the inf from the megaup link.
Hope I was of help.
