Has anyone been experiencing intermittent FPS drops with 285.79 ? Lasts for 10 sec then goes back up. GPU-z shows a reduction of GPU load during the episodes.. is it a GPU issue or could it be the CPU ?

yea that doesn't make sense, have you tried reinstalling the drivers to make sure there wasn't an error in the installation?

Yeah i thought so too so i did a clean install with driversweeper safemode and all :p but same result. Downloaded Throttle stop. Seems to have done the trick, nice little app, no drops after 2 hours of gaming. I recently upped my GPU voltage so i could push the cards to the clocks i mentioned above. Even though temps are fine, im guessing messing with the allready delicate powerbalance of the R1 might have led to the instabilities.

Can someone explain how to use throttle stop with my i7 960 chip?

Im suffering from the same as the OP. I've tried everything and can't find a fix.

    Hope someone can help. Cheers.

I'm having the same issues , and ThrottleStop doesn't seem to help. In log mode i don't see CKMOD going down from 100% , i believe it's not throttling in my case. Could you share the settings you used in TS? Thanks.

P.S. - Sorry for necro-bumping this thread but i found it better to post than to start a new thread.

Edit : I'm running 285.62. Going 290.53 in a second. 285.79 drivers are supposed to fix stuttering in BF3, according to driver notes. I know this thead is kind of old , but OP did you try a clean install of the drivers?

I am not sure what bios you are running or what has changed since this problem first surfaced. Try running ThrottleStop 4.00 with both types of Clock Modulation set to 100.0% and with them both checked.

Also check Set Multiplier and set that as high as possible too. Turn On ThrottleStop and run a Log File again and go play a game and see how it goes. If ThrottleStop is able to monitor your GPU temperature then turn that on to in the Options window. A sudden drop in GPU temperature usually indicates GPU throttling.

Edit: If you can get your hands on a Kill-a-Watt meter or similar, this is a nice way to monitor power consumption. If you try to pull too many watts, this will usually show up as throttling during your game and a big drop in power consumption until things recover.

Hey unclewebb :) Long time no see.

I tried ThrottleStop but it doesn't seem to do the trick. I'm pretty sure this is GPU/driver related rather than CPU throttling. Anyway I'm having some trouble getting 290.53 to work. Also it's so stupid always having to update INF files to get Dell cards on R1s to work with new drivers..

See the thread about the 290.53 drivers. Look for my replies and you should be able to install them.

    Best wishes

I was able to install 290.53 drivers using katalin's modded INF files. Battlefield 3 works great now. FPS was greatly increased, drops are still present but they last 1-2 seconds and are very rare. I'm expecting them to be solved completely in the WHQL driver release or with a new patch.

    Happy new year , NBR!

Edit : Having awful fps spikes/drops again...
