I ordered the Intel 6300 wireless card in the picture off of ebay a few weeks ago, and it absolutely would NOT install. I tried Dell's driver and the one off of Intel's site. The only bone it throws me is that it shows up correctly in the device manager.

So I told the vendor that it wasn't working, and he kindly sent another one out that arrived today. The same exact thing is happening with two different cards. Reseated the card a dozen times. Tried every configuration of the the white, black, and gray wires that go to it. Nothing. Not sure what in the hell is going on at this point. Is the card in the picture even compatible with my M17x? SAUCE was helping me in the other thread, but we were not able to figure anything out.

How can I make sure that the drivers for the 1520 are completely gone? DiverSweeper doesn't have an option for that.

Did a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 on another hard drive I had sitting around with no luck. I'm getting the same exact errors and indications. Are there really 'ES' WiFi adapters? Thanks for all the help, Sauce.

Sorry to hear about the problems you are experiencing with your 6300.

I received my m17x with the 1520 and purchased a 6300 from this eBay store:

    eBay My World - laptop_pop

It installed without issue. I know this isn't a solution to your problem but perhaps you can get a refund and try purchasing from the above store.

I am also using the same drivers as SAUCE.

Which drivers are you trying to install? Try various drivers from intel's site and/or the Dell drivers. laptopvideo2go.com may also have some drivers you could try.

Thanks to both of you. I'll try some other stuff. I wish Windows would say why the card won't start. The problem is not the card, and it is not Windows. It's my laptop. There is something that I've overlooked. Thanks again.

I guess you've checked the card is seated correctly and locked into place?!?! All three antenna are connected as well? (not that this would affect driver installation or operation of the card). :p

Yes, reseated several times. I'm afraid I've given up on this subject. The 1520 will suffice.

Looks like your machine has a whitelist of acceptable wifi cards even though it shouldnt. Do you have the latest BIOS installed?

I can safely say that it is not Windows 7 or the Intel 6300 at this point. That would leave the BIOS. What do I do though, start flashing older versions and see if any of them accept the card? What determines this 'whitelist', and can it be manipulated?

A whitelist cannot be manipulated its in the bios.I would rule that out as i am using a ES 6300 with no problem's it installed first time with Intel package but would not install on Dell driver for 6300.

What's the chance's the card you bought is a clone which will definitely give you issues .Have a look in seller's feedback to see if people that have previously bought same card reported a problem.

No. The guy has 163 feedback and 100%. All of the other comments say the product worked fine. It was rather inexpensive though...$27.50 shipped. The guy sent another one out no questions asked.

Sorry to be off topic, but is there a real life difference between the stock wifi and the intel upgrade? I have stock on M11x, and intel on M17x and honestly can't say I notice any difference.

I tried that link Sauce. No luck. I'll get a hold of the guy. Would a genuine, non-ES adapter work without a hitch, or am I just kind of stuck with this 1520?

@Achilles: I don't know man. I am just trying to max this laptop out because I plan on keeping it longer than I typically keep one, and the little things like this help resale value.

i read that you tried the intel driver, so i doubt its that. I would order a Genuine intel OEM card to test it, you can get them from babyhemi for liek 35 bucks or close to that, id try taht first, then after that i would call dell, as it might be a system error, i have had two of them and they have both worked fine in my R2.

The card was $22 on eBay, so I'm sure it's just the batch of cards this guy is selling. If something is HALF the price of that of a reputable seller like Babyhemi, there's likely to be problems. I've already contacted Babyhemi and will be ordering one shortly.

Alright, my genuine Intel 6300 just showed up in the mail, and NO dice. I guess I was wrong about that vendor's 6300s, because none of them work. Genuine or not.

Are you sure you are connecting the black, gray and white wire correctly? On the card itself, you will see little colored trianlges for each slot, a black, gray and white triangle. Make sure you are plugging the right colored cable to the right colored triangle slot and report back.

There aren't any colored triangles. I wish that was the issue. The paperwork that came with the card also states that the card is only supposed to be installed on systems that use a Core 2 Duo CPU.

That doesn't really matter. You can hook up any antenna in any order (also bluetooth or whatever). It won't make a difference (safe for antenna placement, perhaps, but that may only have a minimal effect on the signal).
Make sure to uninstall the drivers for your old card as well as the WLAN utilities it comes with (and run CCleaner to clean the registry afterwards) and then try installing the Intel driver only (no utilities) and see if that works.
One thing to check is to make sure that the pins in the middle of each antenna wire aren't bent.
Also, is the WLAN adapter enabled in the BIOS?
It could be that the mainboard/socket is defective. Does your original WLAN card still work when you put that one back in?
