So somehow i scratched the plastic covering on my screen on my m17xr2. At first i didn't care but it was right in the middle and my computer is under warranty. In fact i purchased the accidental 3 year extended so I decided, heck i paid i think 400 xtra for the warranty might as well replace the screen. Well i've had 3 screen replacements so far, each one worse than the other. In fact the tech who came over to replace it saw it was so bad he refused to put it on and called dell himself. Finally whoever he was talking to admitted they only use refurbished parts!! Is this how dell/alienware is? I pay over 4k for the laptop with with a very expensive warranty and they send me god damn refurbished parts!??? I mean the last 3 screens have been worse than my original screen. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you finally resolve this problem if so? Supposedly dell has taken the problem to their supervisor and i'm supposed to get a call soon but this is outright stupid now. It's going to take a 4th trip now for the tech to replace my screen, when they should have got it right the 1st time. And the biggest pain is i gotta work and each time i gotta work my schedule around the tech coming over. I"m getting tired of this crap.

To my knowledge Dell only uses refurb parts for warranty claims. Sucks and it's frustrating but what can you do...

They don't always screw up this bad though, hopefully the supervisor can pull some strings and get things done for you.

    Hang in there!

Sour about this scratch man, im with you, this plexi glasses are like a magnet for scratches,

This is just ridicolous as in my work we have tills with touch screens (PC's) and no matter how you try to do a scratch on it - YOU CAN'T !!
But try to clean m17x LCD with a microfibre cloth - BOOM - HATING LIFE!!!

Ya its a pain. Thing that gets me upset is after the 2nd failed attempt, the dell rep said he was very sorry and would replace the screen with a new one to avoid this problem again. Only to have the 3rd one so scratched up that the tech took one look and placed it back in the box and refused to install it. At this point i'd take my original screen back, these replacement screens should all be trashed they are so bad.

the replacement screen I got for my r3 was alright. If only dell hadn't sent a refurbed media bar that had a short in the cable connect for the motherboard. the short ended up ruining both the media bar and the mobo. :( had to send it off to dell for a rebuild

The screen dell sent me, I replaced it myself, and it came with a film cover on it. It's still on the screen, and they let me replace it myself. It was all minty when I got it. Still is :D
