    Hi guys,

I'm getting an M17x R2 soon and was wondering if my 3007 monitor will work with it.

I know the monitor has dual dvi, and did get a converter(dual dvi-24pin +1 (male) to HDMI (female) Newegg.com - Rosewill HDMI A Male to DVI-D (24+1) Female Adapter ) from newegg, but I'm still wondering if the system is going to provide it's native resolution @ 2560 x 1600.

    Thanks for the input.

I've read nvidia gpu's in M17x R1 does not support the native resolution of 2560x1600 on this forum. I could be wrong though.

Only way to get native res on that is:

1: Displayport, if it has it.
2: Displayport to Dual Link DVI Adapter (needs to be an active adapter, and powered. Belkin make one I think).

The HDMI port on our machines are not capable of putting out higher resolution than 1920x1200.

Also of note, you can't game on the external monitor unless you use the old and semi incompatible default dell drivers.

If you use later drivers, when you try run a game on the external display it just produces streaks and garbage on the screen instead.

You need to switch off the notebook's display to get it to run the external monitor.

Bah, that's a huge blow for me.

So with the adapter I ordered, I should be able to use the monitor at 1920 x 1200, and game on it correct?

Can you post a link for the adapter you are talking about? So you are saying even with the adapter you mentioned, I shouldn't be able to game at all?

    Thanks. Rep +.

    Depends on the drivers.

10.2 (dell stock) runs fine, as it has the correct vbios code for external display management in crossfire.

Anything non-dell doesnt have the correct external display code, and garbles the game display.

You can fix this by running just ONE display at a time (power management -> chose what closing the lid does -> turn off the lid).
At the moment I shut the lid before I game, and open it afterwards.

As for the adaptor, looks like dell came up with an offical solution:
DELL DisplayPort to Dual Link DVI Adapter for OptiPlex / Latitude / Alienware Laptops / Precision/ Precision Mobile Workstations : Desktop Accessories | Dell

That or something similar is exactly what you need.

Damn Dell. I was bit happy to hear my M1730 being replaced... but now I have to shell about 140 on the adapter.

There is NO cheaper solution on this? I think my GPU is only 4870 xfire (should be here by tomoz), not the highest one.

So the cheap solution I currently went for (HDMI adpater) will run everything at 1900x1200 fine correct?

    Thanks for the help buddy.

Yeah it will... but 1920x1200 on that monitor isnt the best for desktop use.

1280x800 is a 4:1 pixel ratio, so should provide a pixel-pixel scale that should work well. You just need to cover it in anti aliasing.

My R1 plays games on an external display just fine. I've done it with multiple ATI driver revisions.

Ah, if so, we are referring to M17x-R2 anyway.

Hence, why the OP called the title of the thread 3007 WFP & M17x R2

    Thanks.

Ash - my converter came in today and max resolution I can get is only 1200x800

Not sure what Im doing something wrong here. I wanted to get it atleast to 1900 by 1200 like you said.

BTW, the driver I'm on is 8 series from Dell. Where can I find the 10 series that works?

    Thanks.

    8 series is 10 series.

Also, if your adapter can only go 1200x800 it means your monitor cant scale the 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 resolution.

Looks like you need that active displayport adapter after all.

If I remember there 3007wfp did have a few scaling issues didnt it?

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!

    Darn it. Thanks.

As far as scaling issues go w/ the monitor, Im not sure. It worked just fine w/ M1730.

My adapter from that link just got here, and I'm back to it's native resolution!!!!!

Oh and I'm not sure why, but the usb on the adapter also have to be connected to the laptop in order for it to work.

The adapter is from Bizlink btw.

Yeah the USB is required for power only, to power the processor inside the adapter.
