    Hi everyone,
Everybody is talking about 3D video, what about 3D audio through headphones on r3? I prefer something through digital output, not sure how to connect 5.1 using standard jack outputs.

    try these:

Newegg.com - Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha USB Connector Circumaural Headset

don't let the price fool you...amazing sound when you go through USB...has a built in X-FI sound card and THX Studio really enhances the sound...much better than the stock dell audio. Plus, i've seen these on sale for $35 recently. I was a Sennheiser only snob, but these really opened my eyes. I was so impressed, i bought one for my wife and one for my son

using a razer megadolon myself atm pretty epic.

the r3 soundcard is terrible :p go for an usb headset, they have a build in soundcard and is less hazzle then the plug stuff. Afaik u cant plug in 5.1 headsets on the r3 using normal headphone jacks. i believe u could on the r2 but not this one.

The Megalodon is pretty awesome. The mic sounds good I've been told and the surround works pretty well. I also love that you can adjust volume for each channel separately and switch them to 2.0 mode for music and stuff. Also very comfortable which is a big plus for me, they need to be when raiding on MMOs for hours at a time.

The downside? Cost. I was lucky and got a brand new set off ebay for $80 awhile ago.

also megadolon dont require a driver install or download its basicly plug and play as the drivers n stuff are loaded on the device afaik.

and yes their uber comfy and the sound is quite good, although my razer baracude had better bass in there but it had a subwoofer in there.

I just found that Megadolon has only pseudo 3D sound and in fact is only stereo.

megadolon is a simulated 7.1 surround headset, it does it very well tho.

Medusa 5.1 nx i had before this one wich was a full 5.1 surround headset with the full load of proper speakers including subwoofer in there wich was usb.
But the chipset sorta died on me. Its quite a good headset aswell and with the subwoofer in there it has a bit better kick to it.

Megadolon i got more for the fact it runs driverless and it does it job quite well, as i play tournaments i need a headset i can plug in without hazzle on tournament computers and i only play with surround headsets these days.

Mic is epic on this, it has a noise cancelling feature that works decently so being in crowded rooms doesnt affect u too much.

Everything is controllable via the lil panel that comes with it, u can set volume of every speaker in the 7.1 mode, it has a button to switch back to 2.0 mode.

If u got a place nearby where u can test the headsets before u buy them that be extra handy.

The megadolon is comfertable, has clear sound and a good mic. And excelent control via the panel. the surround on it is better then the barracuda and medusa i had and they where proper surround. Only thing i feel it lacks at times is the subwoofer to give that extra punch although thats not what everyone likes :p

razer make awesome products also u get a nice carry case with it aswell, making it a nice combo with the laptop for on the move. Carry case is some form hardish plastic stuff so it keeps your headset safe while on the move.

its plug and play so no hazzle with drivers and u can control everything right on the control console, control the volume of each speaker and the bass also control mic volume and noice cancelling settings. ofc it also has a mute button for your mic ^^

yup the creative pics on newegg look crappy. However, the sound is the best you'll find in this price-range...plus it comes built in with an X-fi soundcard. Much better than the stock dell audio. The razor's look nice...but i can't speak for the sound

Megalodon's I see no one mentioned the horrendous sound leakage and extremely low volume on them. Also the noise cancelling feature on the megalodon's is not as great as other headsets. I can always hear my friends fish tank and playing any FPS with him sucks because I hear what he hears so it makes it very confusing hearing shots coming from the left, but no one is there. Do not get the megalodon's waste of money. Only thing going for them is the directional positioning and they are oh so comfy. Get the G35's if you are looking for virtual or look for a pair of HPA2's true 5.1(great MIC, no sound leakage, and are ok comfort wise.) and the R3 uses the same crappy sound card as the R2. I just bought a Soundblaster X-FI Surround PRO 5.1 USB soundcard that supports 5.1 headsets. HPA2 + Soundblaster pro external sound card = 70+60=$130. Better combo than anything else I have tried.

hmm dont have issues like that, and the vollume is perfectly fine. His must be not working properly. Regarding the noise cancellin he prolly didnt set it up properly as my mic is perfectly clear and barely any background noise what so ever.

Wasn't just his, Mine as well that is why I returned them. Like I said besides positioning and comfort they are not worth it and they pale in comparison to the combo I have now HPA2 + Soundblaster Sound Card. Sound leakage is a widely known issue with the megalodons, and noise cancelling mic is not the best. Glad to hear that you have a good set though(Not trashing your buy, just sharing my experience).

sucks man guess im lucky although noise cancelling on them isnt the best but they work well enough for me, dunno how much noise the fish tank makes tho.

Dude his fish tank is ridiculously loud I can always tell when he needs to add water. lol because I hear it bubbling in the background, that is not what annoys the hell outta me though it's his sound leakage, has gotten me killed on numerous occasions.

the razors look good...people often buy them because of the look and name. Those $45 SB 3d alpha's with the built in USB x-fi sound card (linked on previous page) probably have better sound

And here I was going to recommend my sennheiser hd598. Best stick with the other headphones for the price. Unless you want really high quality sound.

I can't speak for sound quality of those SBs, but the Megalodons I have don't have those problems mentioned above. Only issue I have with mine is the light up logos on the sides have stopped working. Volume is plenty loud and everyone prefers the mic on them to any of the others I use to have. Everyone says I come across loud and clear.

I chose the Meglodons after posting a similar thread awhile ago and ultimately went with them because of the comfort after doing lots of reading on many different models. I was also looking into some of the Steel Series stuff (wasn't originally looking for 3D) and was going to buy a set before I found the deal I got on the Razers. Steel Series has a 7.1 usb set as well (virtual like the Megalodons) you might want to look into.

If you have a way of trying sets on that is your best bet at figuring which set you want. Or you can read lots of reviews and make an educated guess like I did. Whatever you go with you can always return them and buy something else if you don't like them.

598's? You cant compare those to the ones we are talking about in this thread. Those are $300 headphones...great for analogs

However, digital headsets like the SB 3d tactic alpha's can fake a lot of things to make them sound really good.

Usually the recommendation is that if you have a good sound card, get analog, if you have a sh*t sound card, get digital headsets...and because the Dell Audio is average at best, i'd defiitely get a digital USB headset with the Alienwares
