So apparently the 3d screen does not support the 580m.

While I don't even know how well the 3d screen improves the display, I want get some opinions from current 3d screen owners.

With the new graphic cards 6970m and the even better 580m, you can probably play every game out there on maxed out settings. On the other hand, you have the 3d screen but a mere lightweight 460m compared to its new predecessors.

Is it worth it? 580m or 3d screen.

It's not a bug apparently, the 580m does not support the 3d screen for now. It might in the future but who knows. Just a heads up, your sig says "Radeom" instead of Radeon lol.

Give it time guys, we all know how Dell's site is when new things are added.
I bet they'll be available together pretty soon.
Also the card should work with the panel as the 485m does, in worst case not with 3D abilities.

pretty obvious, go for the best performance, the 460m can barely handle 3D well, i'd rather have a beast GPU that can't do 3D.

I am curious about these 3D laptops. I am very interested in buying one, but I have so many questions about them.

First of all, I know that the standard 460m isn't going to be very powerful with running games like BF2 in 3D. I am sure the current M17x 3D config won't have any problems running 3d bluray movies, but how immersive is the 3D on a 17-inch screen? I know it isn't going to be in the same league as true 3D movies at the theater, but can a 17-inch 3D screen provide you with decent 3D?

I've also heard about software that can convert 2D video files to 3D (e.g. PowerDVD's TrueTheater enhancement), but can that really produce decent simulated 3D that is worth the extra cost in getting a 3d laptop or is it pretty much just a small gimmick that isn't worth using at this time?

Tried 3D, performance wasn't good enough. To use 3D u have to reduce settings drastically in order to maintain a playable framerate. Already you cant play many games on highest resolution/settings so in 3D you have to tune the options down even more.

The 3D however looks amazing, very obvious and you can adjust the settings to create more depth.

3D is great if you want it but ull be sacrificing a lot of performance. 6970/580 will be a lot better I hope. I am returning my 3D bundle for a 6970 or 580 configuration however its going to cost me a lot more now =(

The truth is, I don't care too much for 3D gaming. Laptops already struggle with running games fluidly in high settings. Adding in 3D just makes it worse. However, I would like a 3D screen for blu-ray movies and other 3D content. I plan to buy the M17X with the 580M card and 3D screen as soon as that option becomes available. If I download a non-3D video file and use a program like PowerDVD to convert it to simulated 3D, does the 3D look good at all?

Kind of agree with this one, 3d gaming is a bit too out there for me, but I've no objections about watching movies in 3D. This pretty much eliminates any use for TVs for me in the future and I'm used to a smaller screen and in close proximity.

I called Dell again myself to check about the 580m, apparently it's not even available anymore and my sales clerk didn't seem to have much information. Time will tell, but instincts tell me the 3d screen was the right option and a 580m or better card will be released and compatible in the future.

    Hopefully
