    Hi there,

    Not stupid at all ;)

It can be done but you'd need to purchase an add-on from Nvidia called 3D TV Play. This is automatically installed by the driver on machines that have the NV emitter installed. It kicks in when a 3D TV is plugged into the HDMI port.

1080 res is useless though with only a 24hz refresh and both images being sent in a single frame side-by-side (effectively giving 12 FPS per eye). The TV is doing all sorts of clever stuff to fill in the gaps but this results in unacceptable input lag. At 720p you get 50hz and I find this is reasonable for game-play.

If you have Crysys 3 it already has it's own 3d tv driver built-in so should just work without the add-on. Strangely they have managed to get 50hz at 1080 as well and it looks pretty good to me. Not in the same league as 120hz monitor with 60hz to each eye but not too bad.

    Good luck.

    From another thread:

    So what MickyD1234 said.

I'm going to try it myself with my 680M soon when I hopefully get a 3D TV.

Cool. Just one possible gotcha, I believe the HDMI cable needs to be 1.3 as this has the extra 3D 'line', but I'm not certain...

See below, I got it wrong!

    A 3D TV should be already at 1.4 :)

HDMI 1.4 is just a misconception, either there is High speed HDMI or Standard Speed HDMI. 3D will only work with High Speed

Thanks, I know a lot of bull goes on in the TV industry. I just read that 1.4 had an extra line associated with the 3DTV standard (another useless piece of standardisation!) ;)

Edit: I was thinking about this and you post is surprising. They did so much work on making sure that 3D TV does not increase bandwidth that is is not logical to me. The 1080 standard is only 24 hz and both images are sent in a single frame (side by side) effectively dropping the resolution down by 50% and only 12hz to each eye. The TV does all the work of filling in the gaps and making it look smooth but in gaming it becomes useless since all that filling in introduces crippling input lag. At 720i the refresh rate is 50hz and it becomes playable.

The reason the big providers are dropping 3D TV, it's rubbish, but now high bandwidth OTA is available, a new system is viable - only all the 3D TV's sold will not work with it so it's wait a few years and release a new version IMO ;)

Yes gaming in 3D sucks but you can get decent fps by enabling Game Mode which Im sure all 3D TVs have.

I'll have to give that a try, I thought all it did was change the contrast/brightness. Cheers - something else to play with :D

I will as soon as I get out of hospital and convince dell my GPU has died. Only works in safe mode right now but at least I can get on-line (no audio) and do some NBR'ing :D
