I mainly use my M17xR3 GTX560M 3D Panel for VMware testing. So I only play games occasionally. However, of late even after purchasing a laptop stand, the fan is on constantly. I only use an external 120hz monitor via displayport. My other monitor is a vga connection. The laptop is screen is no longer used because of the nvidia restrictions.
I would like to reduce the fan noise - what is the best way to get the igpu working - e.g. downgrade the panel or upgrade to Radeon or both or something else.
Sadly, the ultimate solution might be to sell it and get a desktop?!?

bigtonyman Desktop Powa!!!
Your best bet would probably be to buy a standard (1920x1080p) screen. If you can find one for a decent price, You could probably sell your 120hz display and actually make some money out of the whole thing.

If what concerns you is the fan noise alone, it's most likely caused by dust gathered in your fans, or high temps making the fan's rpm go nuts. Check temps and try dusting it off a bit, that may help.
Alienware Overheating TS
Good luck!
3d panel downgrade or something else?
