I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this, to find my 'sweet spot' ^^

940xm + 7970m, both stock 3dMark Vantage report nets me 19 Ops for the Physics score: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-940 Processor,Alienware score: P18728 3DMarks

now, with OC of the 940xm and the 7970m, every score goes up a big notch, but the Physics score instead of going up, goes down to 16 Ops. I can see it happen during the test, it enters at 24-25 Ops and within a second it collapses to 15 (this was actually a good run, I've seen it go to 14 and 13): http://www.3dmark.com/3dmv/4559015

Here is the comparision side to side:

What exactly is causing the above, how can I start troubleshooting this? I believe this is what keeps me from my so wanted P21000 score in Vantage and P7000 score in 3DMark11 ^^

Quite interesting, when I use those settings, the same things happens as I describe above, but then worse.
The Ops in test 3 (planes flying) collapse to 600-700 and in the 4th test it collapses to 6-7 Ops.

I tried using the OC 5% and the +150mv, but then the score goes down again. So i'll have to look into that :)

I think I also am reaching the limit of what my PSU can handle, I tried 950/1450 MHz on the GPU but then it gets obvious it can't deliver the power needed together with the 940xm OC, I get lockups and can't finish a 3dmark bench.

Hm,where lockup the bench, cpu test? I think maybe your cpu throttling and therefore fewer points.
Use manually fan speed HWiNFO max speed 4000RPM already first time when benching.

Jay, been busy with it all night but had stable runs with some new settings, still not touching any bios stuff or overvolting anything :D

    P22892 and P7126.

Although i'm long past the point where i'm satisfied, I start to see how addictive this is. Everytime you keep trying, testing, monitoring, tweaking, comparing just to get to your next little goal. And so on and so on ><
