    Not sure if it will work or not since dell uses some sort of authentication with their PSU's

    no way it's compatible, maybe the 11x. the 17x uses 240w.

    all these big companies get their psu's from only a few global mfg's anyway, the generic ones probably come from the same corporations.

    as long as watts = watts and output volts = volts and amps = amps; you are good to go.

    Yeah that is not going to work, M17x minimum I think is 150W adapter assuming you get base specs, if you have like a 7970M/680M, you'll need the 240W brick.
