Although I did order the 3D package, I ended up receiving a 60hz, non-3D capable screen and no 3D vision glasses. Bios detects IGP as "Sandy Bridge". Device Manager shows 2 display adapters - intel & nvidia. And finally, I have application profiles for optimus in nvidia control panel. In short, I supposedly have optimus.
The problem is that the nvidia gpu never turns off.
On my XPS 15, when 420M is turned off, I get no sensor data in HWMonitor, and I can't select the GPU in cpu-z. I can at all times with the r3.
My battery life seems to match with others who have the non-optimus package, as well as those listed in external reviews.

So - pick one;
Dellienware screw up, or
You're doing it wrong, or
Optimus doesn't really do much for the GTX 460M
It'd be nice to figure out what's going on.
Should have probably named thread differently. Someone's going to post "You need to turn screen to 120hz via windows..." and ignore the above info![]()

When you ordered and paid for the 120 hz 3d screen, there is not sense in keeping the 60hz. Just contact alienware and get it fixed.

ye, why would you settle for something you did not order?
-
I'll be calling them when I leave the office today.

I'm hoping for 5hours igp battery!
460M + 60Hz = Optimus not working
