Most of my games will either crash, or refuse to start up while running on the nvidia gpu. Yet it will run on the integrated graphics. Is there a fix to this? Currently using the 267.64 A01 driver from the dell site.

I have tried using the latest driver from the nvidia site, the 275.33 with the modified inf file, however, I instantly bsod on a restart after installation. Which forces me to revert to the dell file.

I read somewhere about just removing the intel graphics, then installing just the nvidia driver. Is this recommended?

You can't 'remove' the intel graphics as it is part of the CPU.

You can disable it in the modded BIOS though.

    Install r3's modded bios, http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m17x/580828-m17xr3-bios-mod-released.html.

Disable intel GPU. 275.33 drivers will boot up normally.

Should resolve issues with games that work better with Nvidia's latest drivers. Will also resolve issues with games that are confused by optimus (intel + nvidia gpu on at same time) since the computer will only see the 460m...

I ran HoN perfectly fine with my 460m on the stock dell drivers. The only problem I had was graphic lag on highest graphics every minute where fps would drop down to <20 for a few seconds.

Maybe its because you won the laptop instead of purchasing it. Can you get it exchanged? Does it come with warranty?

So your able to run HoN with the nvidia gpu, instead of integrated?

And yes it came with warranty.

Yes, I actually had the m17xr3 with 3d bundle when 460 was the only gpu offered. It ran HoN just like I described earlier which is why I returned it for a more powerful GPU.

    jackfsc2,
3d bundle = non optimus = intel gpu disabled by default.
The optimus configuration can run in this mode, but it requires the custom bios.

On the 3d bundle, HoN would work fine since the only active GPU is the 460m. No room for applications to get confused by two GPUs in windows and no fancy driver tricks to get the 460m to display to the screen through the intel GPU.

On the 460m with optimus enabled (60hz screen), the default settings have the intel GPU enabled and as the primary display. Depending on the game it may play nice with the intel GPU handling the final display and the nvidia GPU doing the work or it may not. Seems to cause trouble in enough games to warrant disabling it. Dell's drivers also seem prone to the power state failure. Haven't had a crash on the 275.xx Nvidia ones.
