    anyone know how to go about manually upgrading my Alienware m17x 460m to a 480?

    do you have a 480m in your possession? and is it a clevo or a dell card

    Last I read nobody successfully put a 480m in and got 3d to work. I think under normal operations it was ok.

    I know people were getting the gtx 485m to work but not having the 3d, best bet is updrade to a gtx 580m if you can afford it... its the only sure way to get supported drivers from dell.

    i don't think its worth doing that upgrade.

    according to notebookcheck, the 560m performs about the same as the 480m
    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

    you can easily overclock the 460m to faster than 560m speeds

    the 460m in my Asus g73 is running cold at 800 core/1600 shaders/1480 ddr5

    I second the idea of getting the 580 instead if you're going to drop down big money.
