Hi, I'm having issues with my 17x r2 video. When I turn my laptop on there is green lines over the alien logo then the screen tiles with different colors and I get a message saying that the video driver had recovered. It just keeps doing this. In safe mode it looks okay. I've deleted and re installed the driver and number of times. I've been using 12.6 since last year without any issues. I tried the 13.1 driver and even the dell supported drive but the problem still occurs. When I checked the device manager it shows no errors on the cards. I finally restored it to factory settings and on I get an.! on the pci bus 3 card. I'm assuming that this is my problem. Anyone had this issue? And if it is a problem with that card does anyone know what side is the pci bus 3 on?
    Thanks

You checked your VBIOS? What version are they? :D

^That's always my go-to response. Getting interframe artifacts is a dead indicator the graphics drivers or the GPU itself is faulty. I'm not sure what you mean by restoring to factory defaults? If you mean clean install Windows, then yes, you are right. There is a problem cause when you clean install Windows the AMD GPU should show up as a Generic VGA Adapter in the Device manager with no yellow !.

Thanks I'll check the vbios when I get home. As for the restore i clicked on f10 for the alienware factory reset. Do you know which side is pci bus 3 without I having to open it up.
    Thanks for the reply.

IIRC, PCI Bus is part of the motherboard, not the video card. The MXM video cards in our R2's are PCIe which use a different bus than the regular PCI. In any event, try reinstalling the Intel chipset drivers for your R2 and see if that PCI Bus yellow ! goes away. If it doesn't, then the problem may be in your motherboard, not your video card.

Odds are that the GPU is just fried. :(

Good news is that a new GPU isn't terribly hard to acquire. The 6970M can be had for relatively cheap nowadays. :D

Ok, issue with master card. Move slave card to master side and computer works. I had left the original master on the slave side and it came up with no issues. But today I can't see the slave in the device manager. So i guess it's dead. Anyone know where I can get a cheap 2g 4870m card?

best bet would probably be either ebay, or if your lucky, maybe here in the NBR marketplace.

Just a shot in the dark, as you mention that the card shows up with (!) in device manager - Take a look at this thread and tell us if the pictures in it describe what your problem is/was? - green lines etc over the boot logo. If so, it might be because your gpu is shorting out on the support plate. This was a problem for some guys with 580m and I just wonder if it may be similar to your issue. You could check device manager and look at the "general" tab to see if it tells you about a Code 43 error in the status box. Also, GPUz might show a different revision for the failing gpu and crossfire status might be displayed as "unknown"

If the card is dead, you have nothing to lose anyway by seeing if the suggested fix in the above thread makes any difference - could save you a fair bit of cash.

[Guide] Curing Shorted Support Plate - GTX 580M (Error Code 43 - Revision FF error)

Of course, might be totally unrelated to the above but thought it worth mentioning.
