    hello everyone
i just got myself a lg 4k tv
it says it shows 4k@60hz(written on the ports at back)
also it has 4 hdmi ports with various functions(can someone pls explain?) - hdcp 2.2, ARC, 10bit, MHL

the problem is, i am not able to output 4k from my laptop
i know that i have hdmi 1.4, but it should be able to do it at 30hz(4096x2160@24hz and 3840x2160@30hz)
whenever i try to set that resolution via nvidia control panel, either it does not show a signal, or shows up with flickering and messed up colours
i have tried 3 hdmi cables so far

    please help
    thanks

Hi there, I was looking at getting one of those when I plumped for the Eurocom in my sig instead! Now waiting on a Azus Swift monitor to complete the setup :).

My research said that I needed to use the display miniport for high resolutions so I got a cheap Mini-DP to HDMI converter cable off ebay. I tested this on my 3D TV and it worked fine and I even managed to get 3d @1080 and 50hz. It may have just been software though as I was using the built-in 3d option inside Crysis 3. I didn't try straight HDMI to HDMI and the TV does not support resolutions higher than 1080 so it's not indicative of a solution but worth a shot?

The only acronym I recognize above is HDCP. This is an industry standard copy protection used in DVD's and Blu-Ray. It requires all hardware in the chain (Drive, Video Card, display) to be compliant (so you can't interrupt the signal and record it). The NV CP will show you if everything is compliant.

It does sound like an incompatibility somewhere though :(.

    Good luck

    thanks for the reply
the 3d works just fine even via hdmi, tested on the same tv(its passive 3d with polarised glasses)

just changing the resolution to 4k(either) shows no output or just flickering
tv model LG 49UB850T, if its of any use

    according to hdmi.org
    http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/4k.aspx
it does support 4k, albeit at lower refresh rate

also nvidia did try 60hz with hdmi 1.4
    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/nvidia-kepler-4k-hdmi-1.4,27117.html

if anyone has any suggestion do help
    thanks

    also
if i use mini dp to hdmi converter
will i be able to display 4k@60hz(i know 680m cannot do that)
but just for the sake of it?

hdmi.org said there are no standards for cables, existing cables can be used in hdmi 2.0
    only the ports are upgraded

edit: after doing some research, newer macs have 4k support, they do so via mini dp to hdmi adaptors or cables
now the issue is, it says its for thunderbolt 2.0, now i know that thunderbolt is DP for macs, but i do not know what version dp i have

    update
regarding mini dp to hdmi adaptors, the usual cheap ones are not 4k compliant. 'special' adaptors available for 4k support
now i am highly confused and skeptical about these adaptors, almost 2-5x expensive than normal ones

Regarding the 1.4HDMI 4k@~60Hz that Nvidia managed. It's Chromasubsampling from 4:4:4 to 4:2:0 (~50Hz @3k types) , reduced pixels and data over the HDMI 1.4 making it possible, that article was much needed to explain the stuff, +rep
