Bought some memory Gskill ddr3 1600 2x4gb 1.35v to add to my Alienware m17r4 for a total of 16gb with the stock memory. I believe stock was 1600mhz ass well but cpuz shows I'm stuck at 1333mhz. Xtu doesn't change values either even though it makes reboot and shows it at 1600mhz. Is there any way to force it through windows, not too impressed with Alienware bios bricking when you pick the wrong settings

R4 uses DDR3 1.5V memory, while you bought DDR3L 1.35V. The original memory installed in your the laptop is probably Hynix 1600Mhz DDR3 1.5V.
Ideally, you need the exact same memory for the best compatibility. You could also get a different brand, but the same specs (DDR3 1.5v 1600Mhz). Buying faster memory would be a waste of money, since all the memory runs at the slowest stick speed - if you had 1600Mhz and 1866Mhz sticks, all the memory would run at 1600Mhz.Last edited: Feb 9, 2015Alienware-Wasserman and Hackintoshihope like this. -

Alienware 17 (2014 model) R1 features four DDR3L memory modules which support up to 1600 MHz, dual-channel DDR3L -

On a 1.5V system (Pre 4xxx systems) running 1.35V ram at 1.5V should cause no issues. On a 1.35V machine (4xxx CPU generation) running 1.5V memory at 1.35V (which it is forced to do) could cause stability problems.
4x4gb(16gb) able to do 1600mhz on m17 2014 model?
