lol...you seemed pretty freaked out for a minute there lol...

What do you mean the coin cell battery reset? You pulled the cmos battery out? and put it back in?

yes i was really freaked out! :D

I meant bios reset by doing powerdrain with the coin cell battery out. I turned the AW on with only battery power and voila! the bios was back.

Done with my 1st real mod! I was able to install the big foot wireless card. It was a little PITA thanks to the ribbon cables.

BTW, how do you turn intel gfx off?

look for iGFX in the bios and disable. Just make sure you aren't using integrated graphics when you do this or you will black screen and have to reset bios via flash drive.

But you have a 6970 or is that a 6990 :D, so having the integrated graphics won't cause you any issues...no optimus hell to worry about.

ok I will drop that thought. I have a 6990m...but the laptop originally shipped out with a 6970m.

    Thanks Slick!

Not to hijack the thread but how do you force the machine to use the GPU and not the integrated graphics?

AZN, do you have nvidia or amd? If you have amd, by default, the AMD card should always be in use. You have to switch to integrated graphics via fn + f7 or you can right click on desktop and use the choose graphics (or something similar) menu.

If you are on nvidia, its more complicated. optimus is enabled by default and you can't shut it off. you would need to disable the integrated intel graphics via bios

I have an nVidia (460m). So to disable the Intel graphics I'd have to flash to the modded BIOS first, disable the integrated graphics, then reboot? Will that cause the black screen problem you mentioned?

    Thanks. :)

Here is a thread that will guide you on how to disable integrated graphics on the m17x R3. It will explain in more detail...just be careful. There are many options with the unlocked bios. you don't want to mess with them. Only change the options that you need or you will have to blind flash your bios via usb stick
