I have problems with 5.1 and thanks to this forum I solved it.

I have to buy an external sound card with dolby digital live because the m17xr3 needs to decode this to get 5.1.

I buy this sound card, you only needs to install and enable dolby digital live decode and thats all.The difference is so big now.

    Thank you all.

If you buy an external soundcard you have to look it have the option DOLBY DIGITAL LIVE DECODE, is the most important thing

Thanks for the info, I'm sure others will find it helpful. Can you link the sound card you purchased in the original post so others can see it? Thanks again!

Damn, seems like another corner that was cut to save on the cost of an Alienware. So if you're serious on gaming with surround, buy this addon or get a laptop that actually decodes 5.1 surround for games. Kinda sad Alienware doesn't do this on the card. I would be selling built-in SoundBlaster 5.1/7.1 soundcards as an option. Not acting like no one gives a s**t about surround sound when they're buying a boutique brand (that's backwards thinking) and give them stereo sound. They should save EVEN MORE money and sell a mono soundcard. iPads only have one speaker, why not a laptop? Hate how the world is becoming less complex.

And to quote Kennedy "Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men."

    Stop dumbing **** down....lol

Even Einstein knew this. "Everything should be made as simple as possible, but not simpler"
