    580m gtx heatsink and 460m heatsink interchangeable???

    I would be obliged if someone could tell me if heatsinks for the 580m gtx and the 460m gtx are interchangeable because they look awfully similar?

    you have to switch the mounting bracket from the back of the GPU. Other than that it will work.

    i was asking because the dell technician replaced the 460m gtx with the 580m gtx however they kept the 460m gtx heatsink. the only parts shipped were a new fan and a 580m gtx.

    so this is giving me a lot heat problems.

    changing the bracket should fix the problem? and how would i do that? should i contact dell?

    Maybe he 'forgot' to repaste the new card.
    You can't mount the heatsink if the bracket is not in place so I don't think you should change it.

    I could have been wrong but I swear the bracket for the 580M and 460M was different so he wouldn't have just been able to do that right off the bat.

    He probably didn't repaste when he switched the heatsinks.

    woahh...i repasted it and the card is running at 65C during benchmarking
    there was no paste on the card before ...lol
    these technicians are clueless!!!!

    I would call and complain, see what you can get out of them.
