I have asked you multiple times to remove all of my benches. I don't want anything to do with this thread. Please be respectful and remove them, I'm sure the revelator wants the same too.

    810/1800 voltmodded .92 and 2820qm

During Vantage it throttled on me twice, but I didn't have fans set on full either, probably could have avoided it.

How much does the processor affect the results? Is there little difference on these benchmarks with the 2630,2720,2820? I have the 6990M + 2630QM coming and hopefully I'll be able get get 15k+ on vantage.

Yes there is a big difference. Slightly overclocking my 2720qm maybe 3% raised my 3dMark11 score by 100 points. From what I've seen you can expect a couple hundred points or so between the different CPU's in 3DMark11, and more in Vantage.

Note that the differences are only significant because it's a benchmark and it does CPU tests. For practical applications (eg. games) you will see little or no difference. The GPU is going to be the bottleneck far before any of these 8 thread CPU's.

Hmm, I thought the CPU couldn't be overclocked or maybe just not the clevo/sager version?

You can only adjust the BUS clock frequency in the non-extreme editions, not the multiplier (which is how you really OC an i7). Most people can get 2-5% over the 100 MHz default (BIOS reads 9980 units of 10 Hz as stock on any of these CPU's) before it becomes unstable.

When i run vantage, the benchmark isn't able to be uploaded online and 3dmark11 crashes after graphics tests are done before cpu tests begin. I've redownladed and installed the programs twice now and they still wont work. Any help?

Unigine Heaven runs fine, Furmark is a bit choppy but I'm not sure if its supposed to be like that.

How hard is it to overclock your GPU, and is it safe to run a mild/moderate overclock all the time for games and stuff?

It is easy. Just download Sapphire Trixx and go at it. As long as you watch your temps you can't really get into that much trouble (beyond freezing your machine and having to reboot as you test settings).

As for running it all the time, I would discourage it at this point. Your 6990 is plently capable of handling most anything at stock clock settings. Perhaps if you have a very demanding game that you like to play a lot, or a year or two down the road. If you run overclocked all the time, you are going to have higher sustained temperatures and thus a greater chance of something going wrong wih the GPU over a long period of time.

If you do decide you want to run at a sustained overclock, I would suggest repasting and repadding your GPU at an absolute minimum (looks like you've got IC diamond already). A decent laptop pad/cooler can also make a noticible difference and is highly recommended if you choose to go that route. You want to avoid sustained GPU temps higher than 75-80C if at all possible. Right now at stock with a repaste and a cooler I top out at around 70C under 100% load via FurMark.

The 70C was done at about a 20C ambient temperature I think. My peak under load is generally 70-72C, depending on ambient temp and how quick the somewhat lazy GPU fan decides to spin up. I am longing for an app like i8kfanGUI for this laptop...

EDIT: BTW new tests coming by next week with a different CPU ;)

The 3D vantage run is just out of the box standard run.

What do you mean turn off PhysX? You mean in the drivers? It is set to Auto, it is also default.

The only CPU OC I did was to set FSB to 100.19 because that way I get 100Mhz clock we should be getting instead of this 99Hz BS.

I didn't think this score was impressive, just that it is higher because of 28200QM. Who cares about CPU score anyway ;)

Anyway, here is the screen shot that may help you to figure out why my score is higher. One factor would be a bug in the Vantage version I'm using, I had it for a while so maybe a time to upgrade.

    Your physx is turned on!!

To turn it off in the drivers options under physx config setting processor should be cpu NOT auto!

then run again and you will see your score drop dramatically :0

me calling it impressive was an attempt of pointing it out the funny way...obviously i failed :p

So I got around to re-run my tests with PhysX set to CPU only.

    The scores are as follows:

    P14500 GPU 13212 CPU 20491 Stock 620/1500
    P18176 GPU 17542 CPU 20385 Clocks 820/1900 .92V bios
    P18345 GPU 17749 CPU 20398 Clocks 850/1900 .92V bios

As a side note, the original post didn't specify the PhisicX setting requirement and I would figure the 3DMark vantage would programmatically control this value when it is set to the default value of Auto.

most? more like 2. but nevermind.

if you could turn off textures in the nvidia panel and run the 3dmark benchmark which didnt know you had turned them off. as such inflating your score.. is that a fair comparision vs ati cards which had to render the textures?

    ach well.
