    Hello world!

I'm having issues overclocking the videocard in my m17x r3. My card (580m) would throttle at 63°C to 450mhz from 620mhz, and so I did the 63°C throttle fix which effectively stopped the throttling. However now If I overclock, everything goes swimmingly until I hit about 66°C; at that point the clock reverts to 620mhz. My temps never exceed 71°C so I doubt it's the 78°C throttle. Does anybody have any idea why that happens? Any help is appreciated.
Sorry if this was asked already, I searched in the forums but alas I haven't found anything.

    Thank you

    Hi there,

that is the power throttle that I get (and did with my R3/580) in many games. The only fix I found was to get a modded vBIOS that had the P0 (full speed clock) and P1 (first throttle/2D/low power mode) matched at 620/.87v. You can use nvidiainspector to OC the P1 clock but the problem with this is that the voltage at P1 is only .80v and can result in the card artifacting (but no permanent damage). I got the vBIOS here in NBR by just asking for a matched P0/P1 one.

Different games will cause this at differing times - I found that as a game got optimised drivers it happens less often - but when OC'ing it happens most of the time. I use nvidiainspector to OC both clock settings now that the voltage is not dropping :)

    Good luck :D

Edit: rereading it sounds like you have already flashed a modded vbios so just use Nvidia inspector and watch your temps. I found that (for instance) I could OC batman arkham city at 730 but the temp did creep up over a couple of hours and I'd stop at arounf 73C simply because I didn't feel comfortable with it :(

That's a very good suggestion MickyD1234. Thanks for sharing the knowledge :)
