It's not like the flickering of past with the 4870s but one that feels as if the refresh rate of the display is running at 30 hz instead of 60 hz. There's horizontal wavy lines and it's quite nauseating. I googled "Crossfire flickering" and it seems to be a prevalent problem with ATi. Anyone else have this issue in games? When I use vsync, it gets rid of it but I hate playing games with vsync because it affects the controls. Here's some threads on the subject:

I have it too. I just chalk it up to something else we have to put up with until they fix it. Yes, Vsync fixes it but we shouldn't have to do that.
-
I only have a flickering problem in Counter Strike Source, luckly I don't play it that much. It seems to be worse on darker screens, like when you goto options during game play.
-
I had massive flickering in mass effect 1
-
I get flickering when playing Crysis, CODMWF2, and Burnout Paradise City. For me it is really noticeable at the game menus and not so much in the game.
-
add me to the list...
mostly during loading screens, and some games like gtaiv -
Add me to the very long list.
I believe both ATI and Alienware should find a solution and release it to the public because they are taking our >$3000 for a gaming machine that can only run games and not play games due to flickering.
I have flickering with most games. Hope Alienware or ATI people read this thread to release a solution ASAP. -
happens to me on every game i try. Even in benchmarks like 3dmark etc (though its more subtle due to the lower resolutions i think)
-
I'm not saying that it should be the official solution, but what's everyone's problem with using vsync? I find it makes everything better. For starters my temperatures have never gone above 72C once I started using vsync in all games. I notice no FPS hit at all.
-
Floaty mouse that detracts from the controls and limits the FPS severely even if you use triple buffering. In short, I hate vsync. -
I have flickering in almost every game. Goes away as soon as I disable crossfire.
-
I am planning to buy the cross fire version of M17x R2, does everyone get this? is it worth it? Can I disable CF and just use it as a single card machine?
Thanks for any help -

Could we hear from people who AREN'T having the flickering problem during gaming to get some kind of idea if its a minority or majority.

I notice slight flickering in Crysis when venturing into wide open areas in the same instance there is also micro stuttering. However this is not nearly as bad as what I was experiencing in my R1. I have yet to try the other games that I have through Steam to see if the problem exists in every game.
Note: I'm running stock drivers with no OC on everything and using max settings in-game including Vsync. -
Could you try turning off v-sync and then look to see if there is flickering

Will do, I'll post back when I'm done!!

If it's there you should see flowing horizontal lines going up the screen in the menu and possibly in darker environments during gameplay.
I think the flickering you were seeing before was texture flickering which is a seperate problem... -

I ran a short test in a heavily populated well-lit area of the game during which no flickering, or micro stuttering occured. Like I mentioned earlier, the flickering and micro stutters are few and only occurred in real dense areas of the game making the game playable and tolerable. Oogamar, the flickering that I am reffering to maybe texture as it appears in the foreground (mountains, foilage, moving objects) while the micro stuttering creates a sort of lag and unresponsiveness in short sequences possibly 30-45 seconds during light gun battles and quick movements. If this is a seperate problem I apologize.

so you saw no lines in the menu with v-sync disabled then?

No sir! Actually, disabling Vsync improved my fps by a few and temps by a degree? I thought that Vsync was supposed to do just that? Anyhow no lines, flickering, or major stuttering on my end.
