Nice idea, but really doubt we'll see that. The 5970 in desktops is tied to a card that is already a dual card in one, so dual-dual cards in a laptop seems highly unlikely. It would be like wishing for a laptop with 4 Nvidia GTX 480m's, it's just not gonna happen for a lot of reasons power consumption and heat being the main two. I could be wrong but I think ATi's next big move into mobile GPU's will be a competely new line.
-
a single 5970 is the same as crossfire dual 1 gb 5870...
that's why if crossfire dual 5970 would be the same as 4 graphic 1 gb 5870...
wow...
hahahahahha... -

Um...just because a card is one series higher (5970 vs. 5870) doesn't mean its 2 times more powerful than it's predecessor in SLI.
-
It does when it is actually two of its predecessors on one gpu. I think I have read it actually performs BETTER than two 5870s. That's all desktop of course, I agree that the 5970 probably will not be given a mobile version.
-
The 5970 is actually 2 5850s strapped together ...
Here is the Asus Ares which is 2x 5870s on one PCB to the tune of $1200.00 for one card .... Comes with its own brief case though almost making it worth it...

Maybe one day we will get something similar in our laptops....
-
well...
i think we have to wait and see whether AMD release the 5970 in mobile version or not...
hohoho... -
There will be no 5970 it will be called 6870 and will be released Q1 of 2011 most likely, once you get used to the market's way of business you can begin to predict these things yourself. Not always is the newest card the best anyway i do agree with mr. Coldblue. For example, some people thought that the gts 360 was going to be better than the 260gtx but it wasn't and the 260 and 280s are so old and yet still so powerful and play so many games quite well still, even sli 8800gtx too lol.

Actually, a normal 5970 is configured with 2 5870s, but they're downclocked. This can be seen by looking at the shader counts, as the 5850s do not have the full 1600 shaders. A normal 5970 has 3200, thus the same as 2 5870s. The Asus Ares also has 2 5870s, but they aren't downclocked.
On topic: It will be a VERY long time(if ever) before you see 4 gpus in a laptop. Not to mention, the scaling is pretty terrible @ 4 gpus. 2 gpu desktop configs are ALMOST scaling 100% most of the time now. It deminishes a lot at 3 gpus, and 4 gpus is a pretty big waste unless you're building a Folding monster. -
You're right...
But maybe we would see a smaller size of mobile laptop graphic card if we want to have 4 GPUS in one laptop....
hohohoho...
But before the laptops do have 4 GPUS...
i think the Desktop like Area 51 ALX would have 4 GPUS (in the future, maybe)
hoohohoho... -
From what I understand, there is no where near any software or hardware capable of really utilizing 4 GPUs properly. Diminishing returns start hitting hard at 3 and almost completely make the 4th disappear.
-
Nowsaday, There isnt any...
But maybe later in the future...
Just like before...
everyone doubt that laptops would have two GPUS or a Desktop CPU...
But nowsaday, there are laptops with two GPUS and with a Desktop CPU...
-
-
It was my understanding that there would not be any mobile 5970...

-
Dual 5870 or single 5970, take your pick
.

I wish Gpus Will follow Cpus. Where they are dual cores. I think we are like in the 1990s when Desktops could Support 2 Cpus but they where not one chip. But two CPU on one Motherboard.
We can only hope.
