    Hi all!

I have an R1, dual 280M. My understanding is the 660M is a lower powered chip, 50 watts, so the R1 should be able to handle it.

Can I just buy a 660M and put it in the R1? I think they fit in the R2, and, R1 R2 I thought were same sized case.

    THEN

    What about SLI?

    Thanks for any insights.

If the R1 has an MXM 3.0B slot, I don't see why it wouldn't work. :D

Anyone else able to help out here?

We recommend up to the 280m cuz that's the best one tested for that machine however some users might state that it actually works fine. Good luck with that :)

This question comes up often, use the search option and you will discover all issues related to why it will not work.

Search returns almost no references to the R1 or the 660M. Perhaps you were thinking of some other combinations, or another forum perhaps?

As stated already in THIS thread, the connectors match, and the POWER matches.

There HAVE been lots of posts in the past on the R1, and not being able to upgrade to the newer video cards BECAUSE THE POWER REQUIREMENTS OF NEW VIDEO CARDS IS TOO HIGH. This doesn't appear to be the case with the 660M / kepler archetecture, as it draws MUCH less power than the previous fermi cards.

SO, previous threads say "can't upgrade R1 video card, not enough power captain" CURRENT tech says new 660M is within R1 specs.

SO, if you have any information on this specific combo, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks for any help you can provide!
