    Hi all,

I was wondering how well my M17xr4 with GTX 680m would perform for a screen of resolution 2560 x 1080p (21:9). Playing pretty graphically intense games...Battlefield 4 comes to mind.

Does anyone know? Has anyone tried it?

    Thanks,
    RT

You'd have to probably turn quite a bit of settings down as it will probably half your framerate because you're trying to push double the ammount of pixels. :(

    Thanks for the reply :)

Yeh, I figures I would probably would have to turn the settings down. Currently I'm running the BF4 beta on everything high 1080p, so I might be able to get away with going low and high fps. I could always lower the resolution slightly for the screen but so it still fits the screen size.

I'm considering buying a desktop just for this monitor XD I would need a better graphics card...

    It's not quite double, it's 33% more.

You will want to squeeze out more from your Vram to help.

Thanks for the help. I have 2GB V-ram clocked at 1800Mhz. Will that work ok? I think I can get away with overclocking the memory, if I have to (and I will need better cooling of course).

Bet games would look amazing on that 21:9 monitor. It's like almost surround without the multi-monitor hassle.

Overclocking could help but I'm pretty sure you will still need to lower some settings to be able to run well on it.

Ok. Thanks for the reply. I guess I will have to check it out and test it all myself when I get the monitor. But at least I know it will run one way or another.

    for Battlefield 4
I get 40-50 FPS on high settings, 25-30ish on Ultra max settings

I don't have BF4 but can test out other games
    Running 27" 2560x1440 + M17x R3 with 680m

I turn off AA because it is pointless with this pixel density. Other graphics settings can be turned off without noticing the difference at high rez.

Dota 2 runs 1440p/max settings with AA @ 60 fps/70% GPU load. But I usually turn off AA and Ambient Occlusion to make it easy on GPU.

I wonder if you break the native resolution on a 21:9 if you run 1920x1080. I assume it will run with same sharpness with black bars on the sides. 1920x1080 at full screen looks blurry on 1440p.

Wow. This is on a 2560x1080p monitor right?
That's not bad at all! Thanks for the reply :) Really helpful to know someone else has tested it out :)

With a tweaked 780M at ultra I get 50-60FPS on ultra at 1080p and 60-70 on high so as you can see they are not worlds apart.

hehe, yeh. That makes more sense i suppose. I've got the same values.

(sorry I didn't see your post before because it was on the second page XD )
I'm not surprised for Dota 2. It seems like a relatively lower spec game. But I didn't know about the Ambient Occlusion - I'll give that a go when I get this monitor and see what kind of results I get.

Would it be better in this case to play the game on the external display with the lid shut on the laptop so it's only powering one display? Or does that not matter since the game is only displaying on the external? How well is the cooling when the lid is closed on the laptop if you go the external display only route?
