What do you think? I have it plugged in but my system refuses to even boot up or enter the BIOS with that enabled. However, with the IGP though, it enters the BIOS and shows the DGPU as an ATi one. What can I do?

    Suggestions would be highly appreciated.

What a weird combination haha. What windows version? What bios you running?

This is a new one, not seen this before...

maybe try installing the drivers with iGPU mode, see if it will work then?

Here's the GPUz Screenshot of what I see. I installed the AMD drivers but still, no dice. Like I said. I cant even get any video output once i switch over to the Discrete card. I tried changing the settings in the BIOS to use the PEG as well, no dice.

    Any ideas :p

Well I had an R4 with no graphics card and wanted to try something new. Seems like you can upgrade all you want but can't downgrade worth a damn. Its a shame really

Return it and get the 7970M... I really don't understand why you'd get a 6870M in the first place... The 7970M was designed to work in this^^

I know the 7970m works on it but I just wanted to see why newer systems aren't downgradeable. At least SOMEONE confirmed that, I call that a win.

So from here on out, you cannot downgrade on Alienwares even if the Graphics cards are on the same MXM slot, we learn somethin new every day :)
