    toughts?

it's only $75 but how's the performance increase?

btw, i will buy the better one (6870m or 460m)

    2.2 ghz i7
    killer-n

with all remaining at stock (default) settings

    crysis 2? metro? MW3? BF3?

    thx

Well asking about MW3 or BF3 is useless as they aren't out yet. If both at stock, they perform similarly, the 460m may be a few frames quicker. Why don't you opt for the 6990m or the 580m? Both of them are around twice as fast as their lower counterparts ie 6990 is roughly 2x 6870 and the 580m is almost exactly 2x 460m.

    Looking at your post it sound like you are going to get a M17x R3 with a 2720 ($150) a 1103 ($80), and maybe a 460/560m ($75). All the ($$$) adds up to $305!

I would highly recommend you NOT do any of that.

    1) The GPU is weakest part of your system, the 2720 will offer little advantage over the free 2630, save the $150.

    2) The 6870 and the 460m are pretty much equal. I'd get the 6870, unless the 560m is an option for $75 in which case the 560m is a decent 10% upgrade.

    3) I would take that $300 and get the $200 6970 or $300 6990. Either one is way faster than the 6870 or 460m, by upwards of 50%+!

    4) Don't get the Killer wifi card through dell, you can get a 1102 on ebay for $45.

My advice, spend your money on things you cannot upgrade later or things that are expensive to upgrade later. EXAMPLES are Video cards, monitors, CPUs.

You sound like a guy on a budget, I respect that because I have one too. If were you I'd get the 6970 for $200, and the 1080p screen for $150. Then upgrade the CPU and wifi at a later date if you feel the need. The GPU is very expensive to upgrade later, the monitor is almost impossible to upgrade later, and this 2630 is very powerful CPU so a CPU upgrade is of dubious value.

All this is my opinion but I think others will agree.

how much faster is the 460m compared to 6870?

ok i will reconsider spec. since i'm using ethernet and USB internet stick most of the time and the 2.2 i7's diff is the 1600mhz ddr support

i'm a noob at game comp specs btw

just a note, last I checked, the non3D version of the GTX460m in the m17xR3 had a strange Optimus glitch related, specifically, with it and no other GPU.

Unless you need 1600mhz RAM for something crazy, that is not a really good reason to get the 2720. Benchmarks show the 1600mhz RAM has no real life improvement over 1333mhz. However, I chose the 2720 for the 400mhz speed bumb. Honestly though I've had the 2630 and the 2720 and I cannot tell the difference. It's your money though, I am just trying to help.

The 6870 and the 460m are nearly identical. The 460m will be faster at PhysX titles and DX11, the 6870 will be faster at DX9&10. See this...
Comparison of Laptop Graphics Cards - Notebookcheck.net Tech

It is really a matter of personal preference but for the $$$ the 6870 is the better deal. The 6970 for $200 is a much better deal IMHO.
