6970 has now been released for the M17xR3 on singapore's website
Alienware Laptops, Desktops & Peripherals | Dell Singapore
$580SGD or $425 USD more expensive then 6870.
-
-
This is great news as this means it's coming to the USA soon.
-
Seems like a big jump in price for AMD. I would expect Nvidia to do that.
-
wonder if they released the 6970 now to compensate for intel's blander on the 6 series chipset...
mandrake, keep in mind that in singapore, the 460 is a $300SGD upgrade over the 6870. while in the US, its only a $75USD upgrade so you guys might get it cheaper. -
hmm, you still can't get the 120hz non 3D screen that you see in the manual. I guess I'll have to try and get them to add it, I mean more money for Dell
.
-
Yeah I am betting on $150 more than 6870 in the US.
-
^hate the fact that dell singapore is inflating the prices more then the current exchange rate...
-
Yeah, it's also available in the UK. However, it's not compatible with the 3D monitor so I'm stuck with the nvidia card :/.
-
Actually this afternoon I called Dell and was asking them abt 6970M..at first they told me its not available here yet..but ltr they called me in evening to let me know I could order on phone but it's not available on website yet..most probably I shud be ordering with 6970M in next 2 days..
What do you guys think? I'm still high over the fact tat I'm finally gonna order AW!! -
just order it, and should it be proven that the chipset on our R3 are the faulty ones, dell will have to replace it for you.
im getting my rep to get a tech to exchange my GPU for me, otherwise, im just going to return it within 20 days of purchase. -
-
given that in the US the 460 is a $75USD upgrade, at current exchange rate of 1.35, that around $100+SGD. i dont think singapore has a 300% import tax...

do u think 16 gb ram is worth to have for $12x more? How much did u pay for ur machine? Just trying to compare price so tat I can bargain accordingly -
Will I be able to put two of these things in my comp in xfire? Is that even possible? Specs in sig.
-
unless you are into graphic process/rendering the stock config of 8GB is way more then enough. the only thing i changed from the stock config was to add 3 years complete cover. and that i got for free.
@ blackestnight. im sure if they could have gotten away with 400% they would have. whats worse is that dell only offers singaporeans a stock R3 configuration thats more expensive then the R2, we dont get the option of getting the 2630. nor a 1600*900 LCD or a 320gb hdd.
would have been a lot cheaper if they had offered us the base model that dell US has.
^^ dont think anyone has tried yet. you can always be the first and let us know how it went =D -
I will go with single chip GPU solution and 6 GB of ram.
Now, the questino is AMD or NV but higher than gtx460m. -
-
^^ There are ppl on this forum who can modify BIOS and make the cards compatible. There's always a chance that the card may work out of the box, even though I doubt it...
-
i wouldnt be ordering a SB laptop until the chipset problem is for sure fixed. That means stuck waiting till april to be sure you dont get an unfixed chipset.
-
even if you order one now and it is defective, you will end up getting new mobo anyway. dont really see the big fuss over this issue. esp now that intel has issued a recall and will replacing those defective units.

Edit: Found answer

As soon as the card appears on the USA site, I am ordering the R3. That's all they need to do to get my sale. Get the 6970M.
-
^lol. how long have you been waiting for it joe?
-
Anyways, I waited since then for CES then for the R3 to come out and I was ready right away as I thought the R3 would come with 6970M from the start.
I won't give in until it's there... -
thats a long wait. well, hope you dont need to wait any longer. it should be up soon i guess. if i remember correctly, it was up a few hours ealier in singapore then in US
-
I am not too worried and I know it's coming...
-
It is on AU site today as well. $AUD 200 from 460M.
-
Shouldn't be long now. It's my first Alienware so i'm really excited to order it, the wait has been brutal. I've been checking the website on the hour lol. Mandrake's pictures isn't making the wait any better lol.
Of course i'm going to try and demand for the 120hz screen, i'm sure they can alter the order. I know i won't be able to use 3D but the 120Hz would be nice. -
I think I was right on when I mentioned $150.00 from the 460M. -

Joe and I are in the same boat, telescopes in hand looking for the island of 6970.
-
I hope so joe, 150-200 wouldnt be bad at all. I'm waiting for it to come out as well. I had already ordered the 3D package after getting sick of waiting but now that its imminent I had to start a return ( literally Just shipped ). How longs it take them to process a return so I can order the new one (when u returned your R2)?
-
I don't care what the upgrade costs. I want a better gpu. I cant decide if I should get the 120hz and upgrade to the next better gpu Dell has from nvidia or get the 6970, slap on v sync and enjoy my games at Max settings now.
-
-
I too would love the 120HZ screen with the 6970M but I don't think Dell let's you order it.
-
-
I agree with you but I am not sure that Dell let's you get the 3D bundle without an Nvidia card.
-
-
The 485M is unlikely to drop below 700$. Also, consider that RGB LED screens should appear around Mar-Apr, so the whole big thing around 3D may vanish quickly
6970M may steal the crown
-
when was the new of rgb released.
man that would be a perfect setup for me r3 with xm,rgb and 6970, drool. -
-
Lets refrain from this type of posting. It becomes diluted and next thing we have threads asking when its going to hit the configuration page. -
I'm not feeding the rumor mill but rather reading the situation. RGB LED is inevitable for Precision M6600. It's not in R3 yet because M6600 isn't ready. That's what happened the last year.
-
No worries but again, thats just speculation. My point was it can quickly turn into fact (especially to the uneducated who see you are a re-seller), an unfortunate side effect of the internet world.
-
-
That's true. So, just to make things less confusing, -
Dell, HP, Lenovo and others make workstation flagships that require high gamut panels for color critical applications (photographers, CAD, DCC,FCC,etc). It's either TN RGB LED or IPS RGB LED. The later is the best in terms of colors and viewing angles, the former is the best for gamersHence we got it in XPS and AW systems. Dell already declared the M6600 to have a 1080p screen, same as R3.

What's the hype with 120hz.
-
it makes pretty 3d images and less motion blur cause faster refresh kinda like same concept with the tv's refreshing 120,240,480hz
lame waste of money imo but to each his own
oh and you can watch film content at its natural cadence of 24 fps since 24 is a multiple of 120 at 60hz u have to use 2:3 pull down blu rays display at 1080p 24fps natively 2:3 pull down means fream repeats 2 times then next frame 3 times then 2 then 3 can cause a slight hitching motion on smooth camera pans half runnig at 2*24=48hz and half running at 3*24=72hz which evens out to 60hz 120hz uses repeat fram 5 times repeat next frame 5 times repeat next frame 5 times so not jerky hitching motion 5*24 =120hz
btw torai ur sig is wrong the lowest rez that comes with the r3 is 1600x900
6970 avaliable on dell website
