    Hey guys

Just wondering, is it possible to flash a stock DELL 6970M with a 6990M VBios to increase the clocks/shaders?

On my last M17X R3, I installed the Clevo 6970M and flashed it with some modified Dell VBios and it stated 1120 Shaders (6990M Specs).

    Thanks in advance!

I dont think that will work , it may cause overheating and it will kill your card.

No. It is only possible if you have an Engineering Sample 6970m. It must have Hynix ram chips, black PCB and have the letters ENG on the die. Otherwise, you can't. This is speaking from experience.

Quick question...is it really that cost effective to purchase a 6970 and flash it to a 6990 vs buying a 6990 directly?

not when i'm selling mine cheap lol...and no, its not cost effective for the trouble. Plus with ES cards and bios flashes, there are no guarantees

You get 1 year warranty if you get the card from MXM-upgrade, though they won't have ES cards...

Probably not, that place is full of scammers.

But I don't know of any other b2c or b2b markets and others might be just as unsafe as alibaba.

    Alibaba? Completely unsafe.

if you want to shop on Alibaba, do it through ebay. Most of the products can be found on ebay. At least then, you have some form of protection...especially if you pay with paypal

Most of the stuff on Alibaba is also on taobao. Taobao is also reasonably unsafe but if you buy it through a taobao agent, sure there is a fee but there is also peace of mind because they use paypal :)
