For some reason, when playing any game, i cant seem to get above 10fps!!!
Its starting to worry me abit. It was fine like 3 hours ago.

I just got a cooling stand, could it be anything to do with this? thanks.

Are you sure you swithed to the AMD card? Maybe its running on the IGP.

Interesting! I got a cooling stand the day before my 6970 died. Maybe, just maybe, the cooler is cooling the temp controller/reader and giving false temp readings (too low) when the GPU is really hotter than it should be. I don't know, but find it very interesting that it happened to both of us right after getting a cooler.
Which cooler did you get? I got the Zalman ZN-NC3000S

Ok, im an idiot. Turns out i hadnt pushed the charging lead all the way into the back of the laptop and was trying to play on battery. As soon as i pushed it in, all was well.

Didnt realise the Laptop sucked so bad when on battery tho.

As for the cooling stand im using he coolermaster notepal u3. I choose this one because you can position the 3 fans where you want on the stand which means i can cover all the hotspots.

When running intensive games my temps are around 56c when on the stand.

    Thanks for you input guys.

Yeesh that is pretty bad GPU throttling, I'd be mad too if my brand spankin' new Alienware was only getting 10 fps in games lol. Glad you solved your issue and don't let that AC adapter get unplugged. :D

battery technology needs to catch up with our Alienware. It would be nice to game for 3-4 hours on full power and GPU doesnt downclock.
