Basically what title says. Is this normal? or I need to do something about it. Was surprised seeing it in GPU z and Trixx 99 degress celsius

No. That is not normal. My 6990 tops out around 74 degrees Celsius. Check your fans and vents. Use some compressed air. If that doesn't work, you'll need to repaste your gpu.

Look to Slick's 7970m guide and remove the heatsink, repaste the gpu die, probably some pads are missing, make your heatsink padding exactly equal to his, and you will get < 70C in gaming, don't worry it is piece of cake and fun thing to do! :)

Watch out for those transistors/capacitators, DON'T put too much padding on top of them, 1mm padding would be enough :)

Clogged vents most likely. Remove the fans and spray compressed air around. BUT make sure you keep the can upright or it will spray liquid allover your laptops insides.

Yikes! Yeah that is very high temps for that card. Open up your laptop and repaste the gpu. And clean out any dirt in the vents. My 6970m runs 82-83 while gaming. Though I've overclocked mine. I assume you have also since you metioned your using trixx? ;)

Yeah, ill be getting one later and ill post again results

    Nice, i'll find his guide.

Nope, i was running 680/900 core/memory clock speeds respectively.
Was really shocked especially that I was playing a less demanding graphics game like HoN. Reaches temps upto 99-100

wow... just repasted my GPU, cleaned dirt inside my fan. idle temps sitting at 54-60 celsius. When playing HoN, temps only reach upto 63.

    3dmark06 score from 10500 now 19000.

I really underestimated what repasting the GPU would do to my lappy.

Now I know why repasting your GPU is very important.

    Problem Solved.

    Thanks for everyone here.

LOL...congratz bro. These computers are dust magnets. It isn't long before the dust starts to clog everything...and the stock paste is not very good (despite what you might hear from dell)...and what's even worse are the stock paste jobs.

Yeah lots of dust in the fan and the vents. Next up would be my CPU. Still did not open my right fan. Will open it soon and repaste CPU.

    Its you again. lol

Actually, it was because of your thread that I opened my lappy. Saw the pic which had dust clogged in the vents. Exactly the same as mine.
