Ok so it starts like this: I was just starting my m17x up this morning, I switched from the unboard cpu graphics to my 6990m, I started playing crysis and when it normally runs as smooth as the flow of the ocean, it was slightly my jittery then a crack addict on his 13th hit. The frame rate was absolute , so I contacted Alienware and they told me to update my drivers and so I did, that fixed the problem, but now I am getting a line across the top of my screen, it happens constantly in cut scenes and every so often in game, it happens on both Crysis, and Crysis warhead(I have seen it a few times in WoW as well). The alienware tech I talked to said I ether need to restore my pc back to its original settings, or replace my video card...I kinda think that sounds unnecessary for screen tearing, I mean there must be a simpler solution. If anyone can help me fix this please, please let me know asap!

    A few questions.

Could you list your system specs? Use mine as an example so we can possibly pinpoint the issues. 1920x1080 and 1600x900 are the 2 resolutions for the r3.
Which driver did they have you update to? 11.x?
Could you take a picture of the screen tearting and post them online? Photobucket, imageshack, they all work.

I get a line across cutscense as well. Turn on Vertical Sync and it fixes it, same on my desktop.

I turned on Vsync and it did nothing, now I am having some weird issues as well. At the end of Crysis on the final mission once I get out side of the carrier to fight the exo suit the entire sky begins to flash several different colors and then white light blinds the screen, also in WoW everything started to run like , dropping as far as 20fps in some areas. I found an odd fix for this, I OCed my 6990m to 800 on the core and 1000 on the memory clock and that fixed everything, even though at some times Crysis will randomly crash.......is this an indicator that I have a defective gfx card?

I don't get screen tearing on my 6990m with 1080p screen running stock dell drivers. BF3 gives me a constant 40-50fps on ultra, WoW is a constant 60 fps +, and Skyrim is the only one that slows down a bit on ultra. What's your screen resolution as mentioned before?

I'm going to assume you are running Crysis on the highest settings possible. Just to let you know, while it is an older game, it is still very demanding. Alot of other 6990 users here have fps in the range of 25-40, so low fps is normal, but screen tearing is not.

and vsync is to cap your fps at 60fps, which you won't get on crysis so...you might have to get a replacement.

Just a recommendation, try asking to swap for a 580m. Your welcome to stick with AMD if you prefer, but besides the throttling, I have less problems with nvidia than AMD.

We did the graphics card swap, SAME DAMN PROBLEMS! Now my new 6990m is overheating like crazy, hitting almost 77c on stock clocks. Gonna swap it back for my old card as this seems to be ether a drivers problem or some other weird problem. Oh and another note dude I run crysis on "high" I am suppose to hit around 100+fps I only run warhead on max. Oh and I will get a Nvidia gpu once the new 680m comes out q2 of 2012, well anless the 7970m blows it away. I heard these new 28nm chips will be 45% faster then the current gpus, so it would be like having a slightly downclocked 580 in my laptop once those come out ^__^

Now back to my original point, does anyone have any idea what else this could be? Drivers maybe?

100 fps on Crysis? Maybe the desktop 6990.
