So i got my 6990m yesterday from another person on this forum. I uninstalled the 460m + drivers and put the 6990m and did a bios reset. I then turned on the laptop and booted into the bios saying not detected under discrete card 1  This card was is an ES version so im wondering is the V-Bios isn't correct and is causing problems. If any body has any ideas i would like to know because i'm getting frustrated

No dude, download and flash with a different VBios, preferably the stock Dell 6990m VBios if you can find it.

From my personal experience a card not detected by the motherboard bios means a dead card, I had this twice. Hopefully the bios fix will work though.

tried a bios flash from the owner and was getting no adapter found. I might take it to a local computer store to have it double checked, but i think the card is dead :(

I got mine from him as well, all is working fine except for the fact that suddenly my ATI powerplay is no longer working. The card min clocks are now 250/900 unless I disable powerplay and it downclocks to 100/150. This is a tad bit annoying as its causing my fan to run higher than necessary at idle, and of course an increase in idle temps. Any ideas? Does anyone have vbios I can try? Could flashing with WinFlash cause this?

I don't know what to tell you.

Try putting the 460m back and see if things are working. Maybe, the installation went bad?

I would at least throw the 460m back in there.

i think this maybe something to do with the hardware multipliex (MUX) that ATI uses to display video as opposed to NV cards which dont have that MUX. (something to do with the switching capabilities)

found an article (sort-of) to explain what i am trying to say...

    dude,

you are not flashing it correctly or you are not using the right vBios. Same thing happened to me when I was mucking around with flashing the Clevo 6970M with Dell Bios. I flashed it with wrong bios and everytime it would not appear in Dedicated Adapter. Then I found the right bios, flashed it and voila all working 100% for 2 months now.

Now I'm selling it and upgrading to a 6990M as well =)

I reflashed with the bios that he used to flash the rest of the cards. I don't think was the problem but I don't have the card anymore anyway. thanks for the advice though. :)

but atiflash is finding the card?

250/900 sounds like an external monitor is connected.
