6990m cannot go beyond 19000 range

When I tested my 6990m on 3dmark06, i cannot get pass 1900 range. I only get 19457 score. I see people here in this forum getting 20000+ score with no overclock and with stock drivers. Tried to install 11.7 driver, same thing. My previous R3 with 6970m can get the same score as with this new gpu.

Try and increase your CPU clock or focus more on the CPU speed. 3d mark 06 is more CPU bound then GPU.

If you want to see a difference in score you can try 3d mark Vantage and 3d mark 11. 3d mark 11 is more GPU bound.

Congrats on getting 6990M GPUs! I can't wait to see and test them out in gaming. Have you got any gaming experiences to share with them so far?

Gohelet, my new M17 has the exact same specs as yours, 2720 & 6990. It arrived yesterday, I'll benchmark it tomorrow and we can compare to see how ours standup. 3dMark06 is old, I don't use it, although I guess it is good to compare to older laptops. My preference is 3dMarkVantage, I love the starfighter scene.

Yep 3d mark 06 is old and in this benchmark when using slower CPUs with awesome GPUs it really won't score too well. 06 is way too CPU bound so only the Extreme 920XM, 940XM and 2920XM CPUs will have the advantage there.

Your 2720QM can't go beyond 19000.

Use vantage or 11.

I get identical scores in 3dmark 06 with:

6770M (oced) + 3.06ghz Core 2 quad

and

GTX560M (oced) + 2.1ghz 2310M.

yeah compared them already but they have 2820 cpu. that's probably why they have higher scores. hope so

Ah cool cool! yeh their CPU is slightly better.

I would also try and change all the settings in CCC AMD GPU control panel to performance mode and turn off the tessellation setting.

That should give you a nice little boost for the score!

So pretty much shifting all the sliders to the left.

3dM06 is a DX9 benchmark, as far as I know there's no Tessellation in DX9, so this won't make a huge difference. I might be wrong though.

I cannot resist it. here's my 3dmarkvantage score with my gpu OC at 820/1100: P15713

I tried doing 850/1100 like INAP and 3dmarkvantage crashed. I guess that's the limit of my GPU

 

I am one of those at 20K+ in 3dMark06, but I have the 2820QM, and I suspect that all of the other 20K scores (stock) have that same CPU. 3dMark06 is DX9-based and is heavily influenced by CPU speed, which is why it has lost favor for benching current video cards. Your score is fine.

 

I suspect the same thing. Am awaiting valkerie's benchmarks as he has the same cpu. Hopefully we'll have the same score.

yeah i tried SC2. I did notice it performs well and the frequent fps drop i experience with my previous r3 is nonexistent. I can get 60fps average in 1v1 with shaders set to extreme.

I"ll post some youtube videos and i'll be trying 2v2, 3v3, and 4v4.

Here it is... This is stock everything (except for my SSD and 8gb of RAM but that shouldn't affect the benchmark). Stock drivers no changes to tesselation.

I will change settings after lunch.

3dMarkVantage 13864 overall. 19531 CPU. 12642 GPU.

 

My score is higher by 300 more points. It's probably coz i used an updated driver. But am glad we're close. Ill do some gaming test when i got home frOm work.

Here are my scores with 11.6 drivers.

Stock clock P14339 GPU 13165.
