    Hi guys,

Got my new m17 with a 6990 at the weekend and im just trying out some gaming in my lunchbreak at work, i loaded up starcraft 2 and i'm getting 28-32 fps with the preset medium at 1600x900, surely this cant be right? I downloaded the '6990m' drivers off the dell site on friday so i would have thought i would be in the clear but this fps is terrible, any other 6990m users with this issue?

If you are getting great fps would you mind letting me know what drivers you use :)

    Thanks!

    Specs: M17X R3 | 2720QM | 6990M | 6GB | 128GB Crucial M4/500GB WD Scorpio Black | 60Hz 1080p

something is not right here. you definitely should not be getting that kind of low fps with this card. here's the performance of my r3 with 6990m at 1920x1080 res playing sc2:

    M17x r3 6990m Starcraft 2 - YouTube

I use the latest driver for the 6990m from dell. here's the link:

If you were playing in battery when you got this low fps, then it's normal. the gpu downclocks itself when on battery. I tried to put everything on max performance on battery but the best I can get was 30-50 fps.

    Good luck!

btw. what screen res you have?

I just notice you said medium at 1600x900... damn this is not normal. i can get 30-50fps on battery with graphic setting set to "extreme" with screen res 1920x1080. try reinstalling your driver and see if solves your problem.

Hey, did you resolve this issue?
I have the the exact same card and Im having seriously problems with Starcraft 2. Its the weirdest thing isnt it...
Do you think it might be because the card is so new that SC2 is still behind in compatibility issues?

i just got my m17x and in sc2 its runs <40fps on some maps altho I have played some maps (xel'naga caverns) at 60fps. I think an updated driver might be needed

so i got a replacement m17x sent to me because of some issues and overall poor performance. after reinstalling SC2 and running 11.10 driver i am STILL getting about 30-40fps on extreme.. or on high... or even on LOW. yes 40fps on LOW!

    im running on 2670q, 4gb 1600mhz ram, 6990m, 300GB raid 0.

I'm having issues as well as of last week. I got my R3 in August, did a fresh install as soon I got it (thanks for the great guide BatBoy!) and haven't had any problems till now.

Last week while raiding in WoW, I started to hit low fps... 25-35 and normally I'm pulling 60. Not anymore, in firelands just running around I start to hit low 30s and 40s... Even while sitting in SW during the busy evenings I was hitting 17. Now we all know WoW isn't graphically intensive... So I'm thinking what the heck is going on. I did notice some lagging while in WoW as well.

I go into Rift, everything in ultra. I was hitting 19 - low 30s. This wasn't happening before, I was normally in the 60s both in WoW and Rift. (and that may even be low)

I'm running on maximum performance, had all drivers updated even up to the new AMD release (and surprisingly I had no problems installing the 11 driver). I've had my temps going since I to my R3... And I believe the highest I've got to is 79 F... And that was playing on Rift for hours on end.

I was running on my LAN, plugged in not running off of the battery...
I ran the auslogucs benchmark and I was in the 1230 range. 0.o

Any ideas? I'm doing a fresh install right now.

Make sure to set your Battery/Power options to run at: "High Performance" when plugged in, not "Balanced" as per Win 7 default.
