    Hello,

My 6990m is near to dead, sreen is blinking when my M17xR3 is on 6990m gpu and blue color have artefact... But not on internal intel gpu all is fine on interngal gpu.

I never overclock or opened my M17xR3
he's near 1 years old (end july 2011)

How long you think I can wait for hope to have an upgrade to 7970m instead of 6990m, when 6990m in out of stock...

Because i think if i call now i will have 6990m, they have stock ?

For the moment i can live with internal gpu... have time (and i have 3 more years warrantly too..)

    Thank you.

well what problems are you having..it could be drivers, could be many things. try checking the GPU temp or re-installing drivers.

Does this happen every time you start the computer?
Have you tried starting it in safe mode? (F8 while it's loading up)

not only on start. since now i'm starting on internal intel gpu too much problem on 6990m. sometime during the day i'm switching to 6990m and sreen is starting to blink again (or stay black and i have to Fn+F7 to switch back on internal...) blink can be long and i can see artefact on blue (like in screen)

i will try safe mode, when i'm coming back to home. But don't think it's gonna change something.

Just for giggles, try a complete uninstall and re-install of the 6990M using the original Alienware driver. Also check your voltage and make sure it is 1.1 volts.

Honestly, every time I see this around here it bothers me. Trying to wait out the warranty as long as possible to get a free upgrade just seems wrong to me. Yes it is nice that Dell will sometimes upgrade people when they dont have a particular item in stock or when they have had many issues, but it seems everyone has come to the point where they feel they are entitled to free upgrades for everything.

Think of an upgrade as a bonus, not something you are entitled to.

You purchased a 6990m a year ago and thats what you should accept as a replacement. It sucks when our technology gets outdated, but that is the game we play when we buy electronics.

    I'm back...

Well i trie F8 but don't work since in safe mode win7 not charging amd driver then i'm on internal intel gpu.

I do again a clean install (driver sweeper) with one from dell (8.8.51.2 - R307094) screen blinking and artefact.

i have do a clean install from last amd driver (12.7 beta and 12.4)

no change blink too much and artefact on blue (when i can see screen...)

Where i can check voltage on bios ?

I understand your point Anthony212, just getting this as bonus for me, cause i don't used a lot this 6990m since one years and he's already dead i guess... not normal. (Skyrim and Diablo 3 : 1-2 hours some day i'm not hardcore player...)

    Is it still under warranty?

If so, have it replaced by dell ASAP before the warranty period runs out.
