This may be an AMD thing as I have the same thing happen on my desktop 6950. Anyways with video in game like the intro movie in LotRO when the Ring is appearing on the screen or frequently in the BF2BC cutscenes I get a line across the video like it's tearing or splitting. Anyone know what I am talking about? Is it a sync issue of some sort?
I never used to get it on my old Nvidia 8800gt on the desktop but my 6950 does it and now my m17xr3 6990m also does. Anyone else's 6990 do it?

it's a curious stuff, indeed. I didn't check with the games you said, but I had the same ISSUE with Crysis 2 on a new HP pavilion DV7 with Radeon HD 6770 (my M17XR3 has a Radeon as well, but it is problems free).
You get a blue line at 75% upper part of the screen, horizontal, and the video seems splitted in 2. This happens during FMV scenes.
On the HP I solved doing the following things:
- Driver Update
- Select the AMD Card instead of the Intel iGPU (eh yes, the GPU switching sometimes is not so smart)
- DISABLE triple buffering
- Disable Vertical Sync
You should be fine with these fixes. -
Sync to refresh rate fixes it in LotRO. I think I will leave it on and the tripple buffering. Why would I want to turn off the triple buf with a 2GB card?
-
Vertical Sync fixed BFBC2
-
Cause to me, the fix that worked was "disable triple buffering and disable vertical sync", to you it is totally the opposite. Computers are a mistery, indeed.

lol yes they are!

I am having the same problem when I play Crysis and Crysis warhead, in ever cut scene and in sum parts of the game on I experience screen tearing, any idea on how to fix it? Alienware said I need to replace my GPU but I highly doubt that is the case, I am sure there is a lot simpler solution.

Enable V-sync either in-game or through CCC - standard fix for all screen tearing issues
6990m tearing on video?
