Hey guys. I ran the Windows performance score, plugged in, and it's only giving my CPU a 7.6 score. Should I be worried by this? It's the CPU in my signature, the 3620QM.

'Only'? That's reasonably high considering it maxes out at 7.9. Those scores are fine. WEI isn't very reliable anyway.

Don't worry about the WEI scores. They don't mean much in the real world.

WEI is highly unreliable. If you want to check if your hardware is running fine, run an actual benchmarking program like 3DMark11 and compare with reference scores.

OP edited what I said because he disagrees with me, apparently. The gist of it was that you should not take people too seriously just because they tend to gang up and badmouth a decent troubleshooting tool - Sometimes popular opinion is very misguided.

Yes, it does matter sometimes, and no, there is nothing wrong with your score. Only highly overclocked and other, "special" CPUs reach 7.9. Don't worry about it - your CPU has excessive power for whatever you will throw at it.

Cool - I was assuming that because I have the latest IB processor, I should be swinging and dancing to an easy 7.9!

    And trust me, I wasn't complaining ;)

It takes a VERY fast CPU (usually two) to get a 7.9 CPU score. Even an overclocked 3770K only gets 7.8.

what does 7970 have to do anything with CPU score?

btw sig says 3720 while OP says its 3620?

either way 7.6 is quite high for 3610 stock clock.

I tend to agree with Tapakidney. WEI is not as worthless as some say. It is a useful resource to have for down and dirty troubleshooting. If your machine is not doing well, that will be reflected by the WEI scores. While it is not an indicator of how great (or poor) your experience will be, a lower than normal WEI score is an obvious indicator of problems. That said, with the CPU you have, a 7.6 CPU score is a very positive indication. It does not mean that your performance is optimal.

However, I'm not sure what that has to do with your 7970M WEI rating.

Here's my WEI with 2920XM CPU and 7970M CrossFire.

to give an example of how inaccurate the rating is... according to the WEI, my 920XM, now two generations old, still manages a 7.4 on that scale...at stock... :p

The WEI is kinda screwy... if it were like 1-10... that would look better too...

I bet the general public wouldn't hate it so much if it were 1-10 :)

The only thing WEI should be used for is a QUICK assessment of a computer, nothing more. It can spit out random numbers and YES I have seen it before. We benched a non Optimus floor computer brand new, we ran WEI 5 times, and 4 times it spat out such varying numbers (<1.0) at first Windows 7 launch, we realized how not improved WEI was over Vista's Experience Index.

Case in point, sure use WEI as a very QUICK assessment, but do not 100% base your machines performance on WEI. Oh and you can edit the XML for WEI to put 999999 if you wanted.

Also another dumb thing about WEI; single SSD scores 7.6 for me, but RAID 0 only yields me 7.8....so what is faster than RAID 0 SSD?

dude, 920XM is nothing to sneeze at even if its 2 gen old. its the top of the line 1st gen model.

yeah and i also agree with you, 1-10 ratings would be much better.

This isnt an indication of inaccuracy...this just shows the staying power of XM CPU's. Thats why they cost so much dang $$$$$$ because they stay relevent alot longer. Frankly, if the 5870m's I had in my r2 didnt seem to be as far behind games coming out right now as they are...I would have upgraded my R2 to the 920xm instead of buying an R4.

But either way, OP, your score is fine. The base model 3rd gen i7's (or is 4th gen now?) are redonkulous! Even if they dont score a 7.9...
