HI,
So pissed oFF.
i came back from work,
turn on the laptop
heard 2 beeps and black screem
done power drain 2 times, swapped DDR memory
Laptop turned on, but with very high GAMMA,
my screen looks like gamma has been tuned to 150%, and i can see it not only in windows, i can see gamma is too high even in bios menu or during POST.
Wich leads something happened to my bloody 7970m.
i can play games no problem, laptop works just fine, just gamma is brightness is very high, and i cannot reach optimal brightness even with FN+F4/F5 or controll panel.
Any ideas guyz ?
Maybe re-flash the card vith same v-bios ?
PLEASE HELP
ps, i have to add that i had some stability issues with my 7970m, random blackscreens during web browsing mostly,. During gaming everything was always ok.

have you tried reinstalling your GPU drivers? Could a bad driver install have caused these intermittent issues?
-
Have you tried changing the gamma in Catalyst Control Center?
-
Yes definitely try reinstalling the drivers cleanly. If that doesn't help you can always try a quick reseat. How does it run on an external monitor?
-
rsgeiger over at T|I had a simular whitescreen problem although it was because of an incompatible BIOS. He thinks the card thought the RGB was a 3D screen. But since you've been using it for a while before this happened its really strange. Worth a read though. Thread and post is here.

If you tried with a different monitor I would say that the LCD then is the one causing the issue. Please send us an e-mail to [email protected] with your service tag, phone and a brief description of the issue and we'll get back to you ASAP.
-
Agreed. If you had a CCFL screen like me, it could be the inverter controls going crazy. But you have an RGB LED so that makes the process of possibly fixing the LCD much more complicated.
-
ok so i contacted dell already, but now problem wend even further,
first it was just white screen, and i could log in to windows on external screen, and now, all i get is 1 long 2 short beeps, caps and scroll lock is blinking and no POST whatsoever.
seems like faulty vga, ram, screen bla bla bla ,What the F ?
so the drama continues
i keep you posted on how dell handles my warranty repair -
Its a long shot but try reseating the LCD connector. Make sure it clicks in before you lock the bar that keeps the connector in place down.
-
My 7970m is acting up aswell. Sometimes when I start I get a black screen with a white line at the bottom or just a white screen. I suspect it's the drivers so I'll be updating them soon enough
-
Do you have a 5870M that you can swap in to test or another gpu?

Yeah I got my old 5870m wrapped up in the other room
Problem has gotten worse, been trying to start my laptop all morning. Did a couple static discharges and reseated video cables.
Edit2: by fluke i just got it started but I have to go through this messing about every morning and it's getting worse and worse by the day -
Also try to perform a mem test on both the system ram and the GPU memory. And some of that behavior, at least to me, sound like the HDD/SSD might be going.
My computer sometimes will crash on boot because of a known issue with my SSD. -
It could still be a bad LCD problem, even with all the beeps. I guess you dont have the 5870 anymore to test to see if that makes things better. The whilte gama problem is permanent, so you will still need a new screen in the end.
What I fear most is somehow the 7970 card has overloaded the motherboard. I really hope that isn't the case, but be prepared. And if you can get an LCD working again, double check what firmware vbios is installed on the 7970. That may give a hint to see if Eurocom installed the right vbios on the card. -
Ok, litsten to me carefully, take the 7970m out asap, we have a possibility of LCD damage becouse of 7970m forces higher refresh rate on it. While this is not yet been confirmed 100 percent, my laptop acted the same like yours, black screens were occuring more and more often and then out of a sudden my alien just died. I swapped all oryginall parts back in, including 5870m ( yes I kept it) and now laptop gives me just 1 long beep, 2 short beeps, and scroll lock with caps lock is blinking.
Rsgeiger, your screen died as well, but this was just the screen, in my case case everything just felt apart LOL, could you please post the vbios you used to fix this issue, we must act and warn others I think
This is a real WARNING to everybody having same issues, your 7970m is probably KILLING your laptop! -

How do you know if the 7970M is forcing a higher refresh rate??? I'm curious to know if this only happens to R2's owner?
-
i dont't know it, i am just assuming this becouse my lcd is dead because of this card.
Eurocom 7970m seems to cause more pain in the but than i thought, after my R2 will be fixed ( engineers notified me they spoke with dell and ordered new MOBO and GPU ) i will ask them what exactly went down, and then i will try to ask Mr John from eurocom to exchange my card to dell version.
I REALLY don't want to go trough this once again, i am without my laptop for over a week, even though this supposed to be ''Next day On Site'' service.
Dell technicians and reps are outstanding so far, but the time it takes to fix this is just melting my brain.
Parts are due to arrive on monday..... -
UPDATE
Ok.....so...
I have a new mobo, GPU, and new RGB Screen, dell kindly replaced everything under the warranty.
Now. What should I do, ??
I can't risk putting 7970m in again can I ?
I can't put it in and wait until it kills my laptop again LOL
What should I do?
I will just put my xm CPU, ram, and ssd in for now.
Should I contact eurocom ? And ask for dell version of 7970m and send back the eurocom branded card ?
Maybe I just have to flash the vbios ? And I would prefer to do this rather than wait 2 weeks for a new card ?
I would like your opinion guyz
WHAT TO DO NOW ??? -

as long as you have the ability to blind flash the card back to stock, I don't see why you couldn't try it and see what happens. Don't take my word for it though.
-
OK,
UPDATE,
I was able to disconnect the r2 RGB display completely, and run only on external VGA port on my 42 inch LG.
I forced the flash of my Eurocom card to RJ-tech Vbios version, succesfully.
Thanks to @rsgeiger for providing the Vbios.
Laptop no longer has white out problems during the start.....at least on first 4 restarts,
If i will still get wierd malufunctions, i will send the card back to eurocom and ask for DELL branded one......but i hope...I WILL NOT HAVE TO ! LOL
too much pain, and suffering, just too much, please r2......JUST work.
Wierd is, when i lunch HW info in sensor - only mode, it displays only 1 temperature of GPU, yes, not 3, just 1
check this out, anybody else see an issue with this.....ummm...i would like to see if anything else is...overheating ?
-
I only recieve one temp reading of GPU... since i only have one GPU... Also you already have all temp readings of the CPU, the only thing i dont see a reading for is the PCH and memory, other than that it looks normal to me.
-
the wierd thing is before the vbios flash, HW info was showing 3 sensors on GPU (MemoryIO,DSIP, and one more) whatever it was 5870/6970/7970m, now when i flashed the card with other vbios, i can see only 1 temp reading in HWinfo and GPU-Z.Temps are fine, but i would like to know if there is any way to be able to see 3 sensors again..... -
