    Hello

According to guides over internet support plate supposed to be easily taken off from 7970m. I own M17xR4 and I don't know if that's normal but mine is glued to card and there is no chance to take it off. What the heck ? Any M17xR4/7970m user could confirm or deny this info ?

Any experienced m17x user could advise, can I try to take it off from original card and assembly it on another one ? or this special glue layer is on every new support plate as well and its necessary to keep it sticked to card pcb and it has to ordered as well when gpu is replaced ?

Is there thermal tape? I found mine easy to take off.

    Yes, it is glued.

Lucky for you, i have a dead 7970m lying around with the support plate/x bracket still in place. So i gave it a fiddle and after a struggle, i managed to remove the x bracket all bent and twisted. There is some sort of double sided, thermal tape in place, it is very sticky. I would say it would be quite a challenge to remove it without damaging both the bracket and the card.

Buy a new X bracket, imo.

I don't know if peripherals are surrounding each mounting bracket area/glued point, but if you're interested in trying this.... since the glue is stick (my guess is in the middle?), have you tried twisting it? I need to see picture to further help you out as I don't have a 7970m

Is it the X bracket on this page? If so, can you take more picture of it while it's mouted? specifically i'd like detailed pictures of the bracket closeup, with all the stuff around it.

Basically, the xbracket has an x shaped layer of glue/thermal tape on it. Its very adhesive and removing it with out bending the x braxcket is difficult. Sure you could probably twist it back into shape.

You cant twist it out, as such, because the 4 threads that you screw the heat sink to, which are part of the x bracket, stick through 4 holes in the GPU.

Hmmm okay, from what I understand, the OP is saying he wants to remove the AMD chip from the PCB board which is impossible. And why would you want to remove the chip in the first place? The whole board is an actual 7970M card and let's say you want to change to a 680M, you will get a similar PCB board just like that to plug it in your MXM 3.0 slot.

It is quite sticky, I had to re-use the one on my old 7970m and it was impossible to remove the part without bending it a bit. However, if you're careful you can easily re-use it :D
