My friend is about to purchase a M17x with the 7970m. I told him that if he upgraded it to the 680, I would pay the difference and we just swap the cards when he gets it in. Is that an easy swap? I know it voids the warranty but we are not concerned with that.

I will be swapping the heat sinks as well, I just wanted to know if its easy to just take one card with heatsink and put it in the other, minus all the driver installs.

Of course Quicke, you just need to remove all the AMD drivers and replace with Nvidia drivers.

Correct, it would be good to completely remove AMD folders and registry entries before installing nVidia drivers. You can use a program like driver sweeper or do it manually.
