    Hey guys,

so basically I'm about to switch my M17x R4 for a 17 R5 with a 880M GTX :D , but I read quite a lot of threads on the net about the 880M GTX lacking proper BIOS and that right now it's basiacally stuck at 780M GTX levels :( . Also that it overheats quite easily, which causes it to throttle even more. The threads were quite old though, so I came here to ask you guys wheather there is a new BIOS availible or if the issue has been resolved somehow.

    Thx, Pistino01 :hi2:

    Have you tried slv7 bios??

    IMHO, stick with 780m... :)

The 780M is the same card as the 880M, and the 780M doesn't have any issues. Just buy a 780M.

Issue not resolved on 880m so far. 780m is ok but the 7970m you have is no slouch either.

Ok, so based on your responses, I have decided to wait for the Maxwell cards, hopefully, they won't be a ****up, as the 880M is ...

    Thx, Pistino01

anyone try the 344.11 and if it throttles as well? My cards don't throttle when they are needed, but when usage is under 50% they do throttle but as soon as I load up a demanding game they are blazing like they should..

Honestly I don't see the problem here. My 2nd card throttles down to 954 MHz briefly when it gets above 80c. It usually hovers around 970 to the full boost speed. my first card remains boosted the entire time of testing. I'm beginning to think its a motherboard issue for people? Does this throttling below the stock core only happen on older hardware or something?

Whats odd for me, is I never had throttling issues, until I installed a new samsung 850 pro drive into the HD 1 bay. (as opposed to 0) in the m17x-r4.

Don't know why, Ive spent a day and a half now trying everything I can not to throttle, the only thing thats different before and after was that drive. Had no throttling issues for over a year before this.

I had nothing in that drive eitherbay either before ( Though - i had graphic issues with another drive in that spot before, but over a year ago)

    Anyone have similar experiences ?

you didn't really add anything useful to this conversation.

I did full re-install and such, and now I'm getting throttling, whereas i never had these issues before. Seems odd. maybe its a driver thing, I don't know. Nothing I try seems to make a difference.
Anyone actually have a way to make the 880M not throttle ?
