Hey guys I am in the process of upgrading my i7-720qm to a i7-940xm, the thing is this 940xm is a es version, never really payed much attention to it, however now Im wondering if I will run into any problems.

Do these ES versions have anything missing?

Do they still handle OC fine?

this is the one I bought......it seems in the add they try to say a ES and QS are the same thing?

Shirley is one of the best sellers on Ebay. I have always gotten the cheapest CPU option for my laptops, and then immediately turned around and bought an ES chip off of Ebay. You won't have any problems. They can take just as much punishment as an OEM chip. You'll be very pleased with it.

also...just to give you a hint. See where it says "make an offer" at shirley's? You can negotiate a price. I'm currently in the process of negotiating for a 2920 lol

i concur...shirley was willing to take my 2920xm ES back and charge me the difference to upgrade to the 2920xm QS. and i was past the cut off date. great guy he is. and haven't had any issues with his cpus either.

As far as I know, the only ones who would tell you not to buy an ES chip (when you get it from a good seller on ebay) is Intel and a few people over at Tom's Hardware.

I got an ES Core 2 duo extreme for my old gateway laptop and that is still going strong!

There is nothing wrong with ES chips. you might have something locked on them though for testing purposes so that is a potential issue, but for the most part, they will work the same as an oem chip

however, current pricing is high...i'm not liking the prices on ebay right now on the sandy bridge i7 chips
