Hello
I have a new 940xm (ES) with Arctic Silver 5
After a run 3DMark Vantage CPU has a max. temp. 93 ° C
My primary 5870 has a max temp of 92 ° C
CPU idle about 46-50 ° C
GPU idle about 45-49 ° C
is it ok or are the temps too high?
sry for my bad english

what is your room temp ? ...
-
those temp are right on maybe a little high (1-2 deg)under load but my 920xm runs warm also.
-
idle temps are ok for cpu, load is quite high for a non OC cpu not running any Throttlestop. set at 72 TDP and OC 27x multiplier, my MAX load is about 91C.
idle and load temps are way too high for 5870. mine, overvolt to 1.15V and OC to 900/1100 has idle 35-38C and load at MAX 83C. without OC, my max load is 72C
all the temps above without notebook cooler, but with AC MX3 -
hi nafura,
i've got very similar temps with my 920 xm! So don't worry. You can not change it anyway
Without the NB-Cooler i even get up to 96°C (Start of down throttling).

Those temps under load are too high but the idle temps are ok. What method did you use to apply the thermal paste and has it had time to cure?
-
Hi,
i did not modify my M17x R2 in any way. So there should be some very bad thermal pads between the processor-units and the sinks.

All these doom and gloomers the intel site says they are stable to 110 so calm down.

Here's a quote from Volume 1 of the Intel Core i7-900 Mobile Processor Extreme Edition datasheet.

It takes a lot of heat to hurt a CPU and even then, it is designed to shut itself off before you ever hurt it. -
Hey buddy. I spent alot of time making this thread. There are alot of nice pics too.

Your CPU and GPU temps are normal but can be dropped significantly. Your CPU idle temps are the same as mine. My CPU barely hits 92C in Prime95 and thats letting it run for 25 minutes. Vantage should have way lower temps.
I'm also overclocked 5% +75v in BIOS and have high TDP/TDC settings (90/75) in ThrottleStop with my multipliers at 26-25-24-24. I think you should do a repaste and do the Clip Mod on your GPU's
I dropped 31C under load with TX4 and the Clip Mod.
Hope this helps

Those temps are normal.
All the people in this thread saying it's way too high bla bla bla, all have done cooling mods / repaste. When you've already done repaste please don't say others' stock temps are too high, it just makes them nervous for no reason. -
Sorry I should of rephrased it. Yes they are normal and perfectly ok for everyday use. To get the most out of your 920XM a repaste is obviously recommended.
-
The temps the OP is experiencing are normal and fine. Even for frequent heavy load they are fine.
However, a cooler system is always better. And personally, I prefer to reduce fan noise when I can. More efficient cooling means that your fans don't run as hard or as long.
For me, the difference between repasting or not was the difference between some audible fan noise and zero audible fan noise while working (when gaming the fans are always going to run). Of course that was when I had the 820QM cpu. When I replaced it with my 940XM I obviously had to repaste at that time.
