Hi I can run both cards faultlessly in optimus mode , but if I do the Fn F5 to boot into dedicated mode the 980m card is represented as an Microsoft basic card ,when i try and install modded drivers it fails and tells me no NVidia card is found , if I check hardware i.d the 980m is there but NVidia drivers are not recognizing it , so can the 17 run only in optimus mode with the 8gb card or is there a way to run in dedicated mode . The reason I want to do this is because there a few drivers parameters I can not access in optimus mode such as dynamic super resolution etc .
    Thanks ...

Firstly, what OS are you using? if it's Win 7 then you CANNOT do dedicated mode because you need a pure UEFI environment.

If you're using 8.1 then your laptop must be in a pure UEFI environment with legacy mode disabled.

i am running in dedicated when i had a 60hz panel. you're just like @Ramzay and using the wrong drivers. @j95 makes 2 modded INF files: 1 for using in Nvidia Optimus mode, and 1 for use with the Nvidia GPU exclusively.

YOU MUST USE the modded INF file for the mode you wish to use: YOU CANNOT USE the Optimus INF for Dedicated mode nor CAN YOU NOT USE THE Dedicated INF for Optimus mode.

    So you must....

    1. Switch back to optimus mode.
    2. uninstall the nvidia drivers.
    3. reboot into safe mode.
    4. run DDU and wipe the system of left over nvidia driver files.
    5. reboot and switch into dedicated mode (the OSD software takes care of that).
    6. reboot with DSE disabled.
    7. download the nvidia drivers + J95's modded INF for Dedicated/PEG mode (for your OS).
    8. extract the drivers from the installer package.
    9. copy J95's nv_dispf.inf into the 'Display.Driver' folder. click ok to replace existing file.
    10. run the installer.
    11. when you see a warning message, just click 'install anyway'.
    12. reboot to take affect.

Because the Intel GPU is takes control. do what i have said above and you should be right as rain.

let me know which driver you are using and i'll see if i have the files.

EDIT: if you use a 120Hz panel then you can only use the dedicated INF since the intel GPU doesn't support 120hz.

Really that would be great , I am using a 980m with 60hz lg panel 1920x1080 , I am using the latest drivers and I just add my card info into the nvdmi.inf file and they work flawlessly apart from overclocking being limited but to be honest pretty happy with using optimus but the only issue is like I said certain options in the NVidia control do not appear in optimus mode hence why I want to go dedicated ...such as DSR ....and thanks again your a star..

the modded drivers don't work in both modes like the stock drivers because the 980M is not stock to the laptop. I personally would make a request for the modded INFs to be made from @j95.
