As the title says, I am getting upto 99C on my CPU after doing a repaste using ICD 24. My gpu temp has decreased though. Earlier it would constantly hit 77C now it hovers around 71C.

I think I did the paste correctly. I mean, how hard is it.. Just apply a small amount in the center and make sure not to apply too much.

    PROPER PIC-- http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/2724/highcputemp.png
Any ideas on what to do now?

Well for the i7, the die is rather long so I would suggest a line method.

Hmm, so should I do the repaste again?

I have ordered fujipoly thermal pads for gpu.. Maybe I'll do it when they get here.

Could there be any other reason other than a bad paste job??

Btw, dell tech had come to replace my touchpad and for some reason he also removed the heatsink of cpu and gpu.. Only thing is he didnt remove the screws in proper order giving only half a turn each time.. He removed them randomly , one whole screw at a time.. Could that have caused some permanent damage?

    99c? ya, repaste again.

    Download 2 apps, prime95 and HWINFO64

Run prime95 8 threads mixed test and monitor your temps with HWINFO64

my temps after 17 mins with prime95 pushing my CPU 100% is:

    71-73-72-72

here is how i applied my PK-1 paste:

I don't know, perhaps the tech ruined the screw and it's not holding the heatsink down firmly. Call and complain and you'll probably get a replacement CPU.

    ALSO...VERY IMPORTANT

Don't overtighten the screws when you put the heatsink back on. Follow the numbers (1-2-3-4) so that when you put the heatsink, it goes on flat. Do a half turn at each number until all screws are on snug. The idea is similar to how you put a tire back on the car...you want to form a X pattern

Chances are the heatsink may not be seated or locked properly or not screwed down enough that air may be getting in between the proc and heatsink.
