There are a few on ebay the last time I checked. They were extremely expensive though.
-
Yeah, I've seen those, but personally am staying away from ebay for now.
-
-
Lids aren't too expensive and easy to replace, so go ahead.
My plan is to mess with the E2E cover -
Megacharge Custom User Title
Ah, going after the elusive anti-glare fix eh. lol
-
Yep, still waiting for that HP (actually, on the verge of cancelling it
) and then I will dedicate a new thread to messing with M17X in the way it hasn't been messed with before
-
I can't wait to see this! In the past glossy screens were acceptable (not ideal, but still usable), but these E2E overlays make the screen near unusable in well lit areas.

I have no trouble with my LED screen. you can see reflections but the screen is so bright it shines trough them.

Well i wish you the best of luck. What is taking that bullet proof HP so long to ship? Final tests blah blah i am also considering that just cause of the screen. How are you going to cut it anyway? I wish you best of luck. Now we shall see the true brightness of the screen, this edge to edge crap becomes annoying after a while.

I just got my 1920x1200 screen today. I will have the 1440x900 for sale sometime. But I need the back for obvious reasons. All I bought was the LCD in the E2E. So that's what I'll be selling if I can figure out how to get this stupid thing apart and change it out!!!!! Son of a..........what the crap? Any pointers? I can't see where to start to get the lid apart.

You need to take everything apart i think. take out the media bar and then the keyboard. then i dont know.
-
Hi,
The following steps are required for LCD screen removal:
LCD Removal:
1. Remove the battery,
2. Remove the bottom cover (2 captive screws)
3. Remove the keyboard bezel/media bar (2 screws underneath on the fan side)
4. Remove the keyboard (4 screws)
5. Remove the LCD and wireless cabling (2 for LCD and 3 for wireless/bluetooth)
6. Remove the inner skeleton (8 screws more or less)
7. Remove the screws from the LCD hinges (4 screws total)
8. Tilt the LCD screen at a 45 degree angle (towards you) and remove.
LCD Lid Removal:
1. All of the above steps
2. Remove the two screws hidden behind the hinges
3. Remove the rubber grip by sliding it toward the hinges
4. Remove 2 screws securing the LCD lid
5. Slide the LCD lid away from the hinges (Be very careful to not break the alien head cable)
6. Disconnect the Alien Head logo and remove
Be very careful as this will void your warranty without a technician!
Thanks,
Gabe -

Hooked everything back up, powered on, booted to the Windows orbs flying through the air, then, white screen with a bunch of vertical line. Funny thing is it looked fine in the BIOS, and boot until it did this. Now every time I try to restart, it's the white screen with lines. What the CRAP? Just ain't my day. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good grief this is aggravating. -

Wow, that's some action!
Try disassembling the system again, check and re-seat all the cables, cards and connectors. While at it, unplug the BIOS battery (one of the two white connectors near the CPU fan) for half a minute.
Try again, but this time if it posts - go to diagnostics and check everything before booting.
Good Luck. -

I'd re-seat the cards and the SLI cable as well.

On the phone now and he is checking for confirmation to get the cards replaced. What coulda caused it? I'll never tell that I replaced the screen. Might get some 280s out of it I hope. Just hope to get it going soon.

Don't know what he's bringing, but he's gonna have to change the screen after he sees it. Sucks kind of. Oh well.....hurry up and wait. Changing it on Wednesday. I'll let everyone know what I get. That's almost 2 whole days w/o my lappy! I'm having withdrawals already! Crap. Just leave well enough alone. Right? One more thing....can you put the LED on the R1?

Actually the screen itself is ~150$. If you can find a safe way of removing the panel from the lid E2E assembly - you can then swap the panels easily.
-
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Did I mention how aggravating it is to change the panel? Since no one else has, I am going to write a tutorial(a good one) on how to change it. (as soon as I get a computer that works, CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!) -
Not only I went through the same process - did it multiple times for testing purposes.
Here you go -

AFAIK, there's no such tutorial yet, so you have a good chance to be the first.

And I'm gonna say I've seen a lot of negativity about Dell's service techs. But my experience this time was GREAT!!!!!! Phone support was slow, but dead on. And the service tech that came to replace cards---WOW! Tavares Brown. Knew the system in and out. I was really surprised and impressed. I live in the southern US, Savannah Ga area. If you are lucky enough to get him, good for you. He didn't hesitateand seemed to know exactly what he was doing. Replaced the cards in 40 minutes with no scratches on system and was very knowledgeable. Greaat job!!!!!

I have only had good experiences so far with Dell techs....of course that is always under my supervision

pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Well, Dell sent a 1920X1200 as the replacement(with a Red lid?). They didn't however, send the cable for the Alien head on the lid so my lid Alien head is still not lighting up. No big deal, really. So after the tech informed the service tech on the phone, they decided to ship a whole new system to me. Wonder what I will get? R2?!!! Any ideas? Has Dell discontinued the R1?
-
The R1 is discontinued, it's now just a matter of whether or not they happen to have any R1s left over.
-
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?

Well i was told i was getting an R2, after what happened to my R1 and they again sent me a R1!!! It still annoying the crap out of me, push them for a R2 man, so am i.
