    Hello

I have placed an order on a M17x r2 (classic) with Dual crossfire 5870m and dual ccfl 1440x900p screen (I had to take the 900p because that was the only one available).

1st: Will my crossfire setup be bottlenecked by the 900p screen?, I had to take the 900p screen because here in europe that was the only screen available. The 1080p ccfl and rgb led screen could not be selected.

2nd: Is temperature an issue with the xFire 5870m setup if i pair it up with my Zalman nc2000 cooler?, I will not do any internal mod (I dont want to void the warrenty).

3rd: This is my main concern, I will be using the computer about 2-3 hours a day on average, will the CCFL screen have any issues with its lifespan? (I want it to last atleast 5 years or more).

    Best regards,
    Ben

    Welcome to NBR,Simplified!

1st: The screen will never be a bottleneck, you will just not be able to play at/ use higher resolutions than 1440x900 which is kida good because some games run better at low resolutions

2nd: temp is not a issue but you'll have to open your system up(or have Dell do it) from time to time to clean the heatsinks, grills etc. of dust which will block the air flow resulting into higher temperatures. Also in those 5 years that you want to keep your laptop a repaste (at least) of the CPU and GPUs has to be done.

3rd: That nobody can tell, there are screens that die in a few weeks and screens that last for years. But if you bought warranty then Dell will replace your faulty parts, they have a great service.

    Enjoy your system.

Katalin, thanks for the answer. I will give you + rep for it.

In general the rgb led screen would have an advantage when it comes to life span, but since it was out of stock I got the CCFL. How much of a disadvantage does the CCFL have over the rgb counterpart (in terms of lifespan that is)?

Are the CCFL screens good quality in general? Has anyone had an issue with it so far?

Unfortunately I have only 1 year of warrenty.

I have both RGB(few weeks old R2) and Dual CCFL 1920x1200(a year old R1).
The R1 screen was great, never had a problem with it using it ~5-6hours /day.
The RGB is brighter and the colours are a little nicer but it's not something that you would really regret over the high res. dual CCFL, this is how i feel.
Anyways if you're planning on keeping your laptop for a few years i'm sure that prices will go lower and you'll find yourself a screen if it really bothers you ;)
As for warranty, it can be extended if you want, of course at extra cost, but that's up to you.

Simplified - welcome to the club, you will love your system. The RGB is something you notice more when you have two to compare. When I had the 900p I thought it was just fine very nice screen. The 5870's no problem with heat on mine with the i7 840. The fans only kick in high during gaming. You made a fine choice in getting the R2 it is a wonderful machine overall. ;)

Most folks want their laptop to be a viable product for as long as possible. The 900p screen will actually play games at higher settings than our 1200p screens will well into the future. You won't be disappointed, and welcome to the forum!
