Hello all, I'm trying to order an m17x R3 from Dell and I really want to get a great deal, not because I'm cheap, but because I just don't have gobs of money to throw at a laptop, but would really love an Alienware ;)

Anyways, I called a rep today and got an all-in deal for in the $2,000 neighborhood, but it wasn't much cheaper then just configuring on the website.

Anybody order an R3 lately that could give ma few tips? Maybe some tips on how to either get the price down, or get discounts on upgrades (like processor)?

Also, does anyone know if the Xbox deal applies to non-students/future students who don't have ID/.edu address yet?

    Thanks so much :D

As for the xbox - If you're in high school, or the parent of someone you're ordering it for who is in high school, they just asked me for the student's school name and student ID number. I was prepared to be asked for proof of some sort (faxed report card or the like), but they didn't ask for that.

Oh believe me, I've been through that thread :)

There hasn't been much talk about ordering m17x's lately though, and I'm just curious if anybody that has recently can give me some pointers. Right now they're just kind of saying there's not really any discounts, etc.

I'm neither of those, I'm actually out of college but going back soon. Maybe I'll just find one of my college IDs and see if that's good enough, if they're not really following up...

Seriously? I would love you until the end of time and be forever indebted to you for that. So far I just haven't had much luck with the phone reps :( I qualify for the EPP but that's amounting to only a 2% discount...
